Duke of Ostia

The Duke or Duchess of Ostia is appointed to the secondborn of the ruling Monarch of Ostia. Barons serving the Duke of Ostia are often also notable royal family members who are not direct princes or princesses to the throne. Often the title will pass to the next and most recent secondborn after the Duke's passing. Families and direct relatives of the late duke will receive a barony or baronet in honor of their family member's service to the crown.

Qualifications

Must be a descendent of the Ostian Royalty, specifically for the secondborn of the Crown Line. Acquires royal-level training and tutelage.

Duties

To represent the will of Their Majesty, maintain morale and ideals of Ostia, provide aid to those within their fief.

Responsibilities

Maintaining ready retinue and militia for service to the crown. Maintaining land and related tax and tariff for the kingdom's economy. Acting as a form of judicial governance for the appointed fief/territory and upholding crown law. Providing yearly reports on said maintentance to the crown officials. Provides additional surveillance and defense for kingdom lands and provides aid to baronies. Provide council to the Crown. Act as representation of the Crown as requested and needed.

Benefits

A duchy fief with inner personal fee with castle, a seat on the Large and Small Councils, Monarch's pledge of protection, a cut of taxes for facilitating fief management, among other benefits. Often also awarded a role of General during times of war.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Treason against the crown, conspiracy or aid and abetting of treason.
