Paracelsus
Paracelsus, the God of Life, is the only god in either era to not gain their power from either of the moons. Like the others, however, Paracelsus was but a mortal man before his divinity. Though his mortal name is lost to time, there are a few things we understand about the Tortue's time before.
Paracelsus was believed to have been a devout Sandorian, as well as a personal student of Morgana-Salavarrieta. The standing theory is that Paracelsus was disturbed by the loss of life in The Eternal Dusk, and was radicalized against Eleanora, believing the God of Chaos to be the root of all mortal suffering. Using his studies with Morgana, Paracelsus would learn to tap in to the raw weave, trying to discover how to harness the universal energy to prolong life. In this route, Paracelsus would become the first necromancer - inventing spells like Revivify, Raise Dead, Resurrection, Clone, Magic Jar, and others. While these were incredible steps to maintaining life, none of these discoveries actually helped in preventing death, as Paracelsus would see those who revived as aspirants to his cause, but lesser than those who managed to evade death. Never sated, Paracelsus would become the first lich of Holdtronja.
It is said that Paracelsus regretted his actions by his followers. Becoming a lich took the murder of many innocents, and for it Paracelsus would retreat into the shadows. Following his transformation, disappearences would rise across Verdai. Those who vanished were often nobodies: homeless people, prisoners, orphans. Realizing that not all peoples of Holdtronja would be able to attain lichdom, Paracelsus would experiment on these individuals, carefully bringing them as close to death as possible without killing, surgically removing body parts while maintaining their life force. To be a test subject of Paracelsus was everlasting torment. It is believed that this is when he had made his first major breakthrough in his world wide cure for death. The creation of the vampire.
The state of Paracelsus' divinity is up for question. Some believe that, in a move to appease Sandor, Paracelsus managed to steal a piece of divinity from Eleanora, becoming a god in much the same way as the others of the Verdan Pantheon, but on his own volition. His detractors believe, however, that Paracelsus is none more than a myth, while Athanasians state that Paracelus is nothing more than a powerful fallen wizards to their followers. Those higher in the Deadlords ranks, however, know better.
Myth or not, Paracelsus is the boogyman of Verdai. Some revere Paracelsus for assistance through difficult times in health, while others are zealots of immortailty.
