Skamos Levenbrand

Skamos was born into an eccentric family to say the least. No tiefling has a truly dull life but most don’t begin training in the arts of death at the ripe old age of 7. The Way of the Long Death is a martial art passed down by Monks devoted to Athanasios, the God of Death and Martyrs, and is seen as a tool to hone the body into one of His weapons, rather than relying on powerful artifacts and other such boon, effectively turning the Monk’s body into a holy weapon of death. At least that’s what Skamos’ father, Nasamos had always taught him.   His father had been a devotee of Death for nearly all his life, and found a match with Zatuma Qorias, another tiefling, but rather than an apostle of the Ancillary, she was miraculously born under the Martyr God’s sign, granting the sorceress powers of shadow. While Nasamos did his best to teach her about the meanings of her gifts, Zatuma saw a curse, that is, until she realized the heights of power, both literal and political, she could achieve. Up until this revelation, the two had started to build a family within the walls of the “Oasis of the Ancillary,” the temple that Nasamos had called home for many years, training his body and mind. They had Skamos first, then two years later, triplet girls, Valria, Rieta, and Creelia, and lastly another son. When Zatuma began to seek more selfish ends, the romance was slowly whittled down to a tense standoff, eventually culminating in a separation.   Just after Zatuma gave birth to their final child, Tiamos, it was decided that the two sons would remain with Nasamos and the three triplet daughters would go with their mother to found Clan Qorias, a kniving group, set on control and power in the nearly lawless land of Aknir. Zatuma had begun to amass contacts and allies that shared her ideals so it wasn't difficult to begin building, placing Valria and Rieta at the forefront when they were old and skilled enough to shoulder the burden. When Creelia, now going by Cri, was of age, she struck out on her own to become her own person, she still maintained a relationship with her mom, she just needed to distance herself from Zatuma’s crazy schemes. She rekindled her relationship with the male side of the family, not as a monk, but just for the sake of a stable-ish home life and bonding more with Skamos. She’s hardly ever home, as her monster hunting and mercenary work keep her away for long stretches of time, but she occasionally helps them if she’s able.   Back at the Monastery, Nasamos trained Skamos and Tiamos in the Way of the Long Death, teaching them how to be quick on their feet, physically and mentally, drawing power from the loss of life. At first, the brothers were enthusiastic to be learning such techniques, sparring, drilling, and even meditating. Tiamos took to the training naturally, enjoying the rigorous nature of the schedule, the pattern of focus and habit, and gaining strength over time. Skamos personally saw less value in the predictable patterns of the training and wanted desperately to explore and learn in a dangerous real world setting, where no punch was pulled and rules were a thing of the past. Nasamos agreed to release Skamos once he had reached the rank of Apprentice in their order, believing that by then, he would have enough training and skill to manage on his own, and also praying that his son would try to use his brain a little more out there than he did within the walls.   So Skamos Levenbrand set out to find...glory...experience...adventure…? It didn’t matter, because Athanasios willing, he would find exactly what he needed to find.
