Thenn

The Frozen Son

Thenn is one of the deities in the Ordning pantheon and the god of death in giant religion. He is feared by all giants for he is believed to one day betray all of creation by unleashing the Dread Dragoness Valdra upon the Material Plane and beginning the War of the Twilight. He is considered wholly and irredeemably evil by most of the Ordning's followers but among frost giants, he is considered their lone advocate and the only one who truly understands the cruelty of the Old Magic the Storm Father, Jötu, tries to keep from them.

Divine Domains

Thenn is the god of frost giants, raiding, winter, ice, snow, cold, wind, hunger, madness, cruelty, strength, destruction, and cannibalism. His divine domains are Death, Tempest, Trickery, and War.

Holy Books & Codes

The primary religious text for the gods of the Ordning is the Tale of Twilight, which is said to recount that which will come to pass in the days of the Twilight Era, the Final Doomed moments of the Material Plane. Ordered claim that it was Jötu, himself a powerful seer, that gleaned the Tale of Twilight through the runecasting. Jötu then had his child Duris record the Tale and give it to all the giants that they might prepare the smaller races for the coming apocalypse. All who believe in the Tale of Twilight hate and fear Thenn, for they know that it is because of his scheming and villainy that the Twilight will come to pass and that he will reap all the souls he can when the time comes to grow the strength of his demonic army.   Other stories told by giants include the exploits and histories of the gods of the Ordning, including Thenn. Cultures influenced by giant religion, such as the Varskogans of Varangia, often have echoes of these tales stitched into the fabric their oral histories.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Thenn's divine symbol is the giant rune, teiwaz, the Old Varangian sign for "unbidden victory."

Tenets of Faith

Thenn is the most malevolent of the Ordning. Thenn hates the other members of the Ordning, particularly his older siblings Duris and Frothga, for they were given more of the secrets of the Old Magic that Jötu gleaned through the runecasting. He believes he has been cheated, and so consorts will all sorts of dark powers to prove his worth and throw down his elders. For this reason, He is hated by all because all know that it is he who will bring about the Twilight War with his scheming and villainy. He broods from his icy longhouse and watches over all the world’s unbelievers, traitors, and criminals whom are locked in the frozen prison of Thengaard. Yet every year, Thenn causes the prison to melt one drop and when he is free he will unleash his army of demons and raiders upon the land.   Some who seek the release of true enlightenment promised by the Twilight War actively serve Thenn and work to cause the chaos and bloodshed that is to herald the beginning of the Twilight Era. Some even try to journey to Thengaard to free him, yet most who follow the Ordning know that this goes against the visions of Jötu and would be disastrous to their souls.

Holidays

In giant culture, the five days of the week are divided among the five giant gods, save Thenn. Throughout the year, there are several days of ill omen, that fall outside of the normal calendar's week. These days are called Thenndays and are considered times of ill omen. Little business or work is conducted on this day for fear of drawing the wrath of the Frozen Son.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Thenn seeks prove himself to be both the most powerful of the Ordning gods and the most worthy of the secrets of the Old Magic. He desires to see the ruination of his father Jötu and his siblings, Duris, Frothga, Styr, and Gronnar and all their followers. Above all, Thenn seeks the absolute desolation of all life that does not bow to his wishes and to lock the Material Realm in a blinding, freezing blizzard three winters deep.

Family Ties

Thenn has one parent, the Storm Father Jötu. Thenn's mother, Vaynera, was killed during the birth of his brother Gronnar. Some claim that when she saw the horrors of what Thenn would do to the world, Gronnar was roused into vengeance, and accidentally killed his mother, and so it is Thenn who is to blame for the death of the Seeress Vaynera. Thenn is the younger brother of two divine siblings Duris, and Frothga; and the older brother of Styr and Gronnar.
