Herd Break

Keeping the Herd

For over 12,000 years, the heirs have been farming cadonians through a series of consecutive cloning processes. Initially, the first cadonians created for farming were cloned from original human heirs, but they were never allowed a single moment of sentience. Instead, they were farmed from birth up to their deaths, with the cloning, replacing, and farming process repeating itself over and over again.   However, after all those years of cloning, the consecutive process began producing faulty cadonians, unable to provide the necessary filtered elerium. To solve the problem, the heirs engineered new human samples and released them systematically into the wild, integrating them into the larger Honarthian society to increase the genetic pool of the cadonians gradually.

Breaking the Herd

The solution allowed the natural growth of the cadonian genetic pool, ensuring that the heirs could continue farming filtered elerium from them and keep their cloning processes intact. However, the true nature of the cadonians' origin was kept a secret and carefully crafted by the heirs, who controlled the media at the time.

Public Knowledge

The public knowledge of the origin of the cadonians was a total fabrication promoted by the heirs' media. According to the narrative, cadonians were portrayed as lost isolated tribes of humans who had chosen simpler, less tech-savvy lives. The primary story was that in their isolation, the necessity of inbreeding eventually led to a mutation that gave them their unique physiology and biology.   However, the truth was far darker, and the mutation that made them incompatible with humans for reproduction was an engineered one by the heirs. They had kept this secret from the larger society, including the cadonians themselves, who had been subjected to farming for centuries without the knowledge of their true origin.
