The Heart of the Void

"We do not speak much of this tale as we are unsure why we know of it ourselves. It is something embedded into our culture since the beginning of our civilization. I believe it is another lesson from the First, a dark parable to learn from and avoid."
— The Empty Eye
The Void Heart, the boogeyman of the Victracki people, has many dark tales attached to its name. Most are suitable for children, and are a way to keep them from abusing their Void powers at a young age. This myth, the Heart of the Void is not one of these. This is a grim story specifically to act as a morality tale for those of an older age, and it is one all Victracki must hear during their young adult life. This is the tale of how the Void Heart came to be.

Summary

The Heart of the Void always starts out the same, no matter the telling. It begins long ago during the height of the First's galactic reign. A wise and powerful First was loved by all and spread their knowledge to all who would hear them. Yet, there was something even this First could not understand, how death could not be stopped. Their lives were long and death was truly a rare occurrence, but it still happened and this great and wise First mourned for those lost to it. It is generally at this point in the tale someone dies and the First in question has had enough and they reach out to the Void for an answer. After all, the Void brought so much fortune and strength to his people, it must have an answer here. It is at this point that something occurs, the tale is rarely clear on what exactly happens, but during this communion with the Void the First find's something that should never have been discovered. The Void Heart, a creature of raw entropy that wants only to bring disaster upon the universe. The First, with the aid of their fellows, are able to push it back and bring peace to the galaxy again.

In Art

Murals of the creation of the Void Heart can be found in some temples on the planet of Victra, but they are few and far between. This is not a tale celebrated by the Victracki, but one they look on sorrowfully.
