Verinate
"Ugh, why does this stuff always smell so bad." "Oh stop your whining, the faster we get it the faster we stop smelling it." "Yeah yeah, I'm getting it, still can't believe this is in my cyber."Verinate, a relatively common material in the Melov Collective, it is well known for its wide range of uses during the creation of intricate cybernetics. Whether it is part of the interior coating to prevent radiation contamination of delicate parts, or to act as an aesthetic coloring on the exterior metal shell it is everywhere in Melov cybernetics; and has become a hallmark of their design. There is a saying any self respecting cyber-engineer will tell you due to this, "If you want the best smell the implant first".
History & Usage
History
Verinate was unknown for the majority of Melov history, with only rumors of bad smells coming from the deepest parts of their primitive underground shelters being a sign of its existence. As their collective desire to explore their planet's surface increased, and no longer live in cramped bunkers, increased the need for a radiation resistant material became paramount. With every material being tested, it was eventually discovered that the smells indicative of deeper housing was coming from veins of verinate. After years of testing and experimentation it was confirmed that verinate was almost entirely resistant to radiation, it taking decades for even constant high radiation exposure to harm it. With this revelation, the production of radiation resistant cybernetics began in earnest, and the Melov finally got to truly see the surface of their planet for the first time in known history.
Manufacturing & Products
Verinate is almost exclusively used in the production of high grade cybernetics due to its ability to protect sensitive parts from irradiation, drastically increasing their usability over a lifetime.
Type
Ore/Mineral
Rarity
Extremely rare outside of the Melov Collective, but fairly common inside its borders.
Odor
Verinate is infamous for its smell. While hard to describe, the nearest analogy most species agree on is something between rotting flesh and a rotten egg. Overall, extremely unpleasant to experience.
Color
Cobalt blue
