Somintu

Somintu is a tall, physically fit, man full of charm and grace. He calls the Pua region home, however he never stays in one place for long. His deep emerald eyes have captured the hearts and minds of many men and women with little effort. Despite being a man of few words, his voice is melodic and he often speaks as if reciting poetry. He is well versed in the fine arts and can play several instruments.

Everyone's Favorite

Everyone that Somintu meets agrees he has something special about him. As a child he was the favorite student of every teacher and his parents were proud to dub him their favorite child. He is often greeted with smiles and shows of affection everywhere he goes. When he enters a new town it does not take long before he is warmly welcomed into businesses and homes. He is often given gifts, free services, and even had fathers offer their young daughters to be his bride. Before he can be tied down however, he always has to suddenly leave for one reason or another. By leaving in this manner he is able to leave the door open to reentering a relationship if needed.

Raising the Bar

Initially Somintu used his charms and skills as a means to support himself while he travels freely throughout the land. His ambitions began to change and grow after a fateful encounter with a group of bandits. They were not the smartest bunch however, they could not be swayed with Somintu's normal tricks. He decided to pretend to be a lord of crime himself and offer to "take pity on them and mentor them." He became their leader and taught them how to con, scheme, and manipulate as an alternative to chaotic violence. Eventually, he made his way to the city of Quokka. While there, he came across a celebration for a young lady named Esfun's 16th Birthday. He observed everyone celebrating and noticed many men lining up bringing Efsun gifts and promising love and marriage. Somintu had no interest in being anyone's suitor but was looking for someone tor score a place to stay for the night. He greeted Efsun with a deep bow and a smile to melt hearts. When he raised his head however his smile faltered as he noticed a young girl with red hair and lilac eyes standing behind Efsun. The world slowed down as their eyes met and he wondered who she might be. He muttered apologies and quickly walked away. He couldn't shake the feeling that she was special and spent the afternoon inquiring about the young girl. He learned her name was Vadania Siannodel and the youngest daughter of a very wealthy merchant as well as Efsun's little sister. As the sun began to set he sought out Efsun to ask her to introduce himself to her younger sister. She was happy to comply and practically shoved him into Vadania's arms. He asked her to dance and spent the evening charming her and sealed the night with a kiss on the cheek. He left quickly after the celebration to begin on his path to a new goal. He no longer wanted to be a common conman. He wanted to live a life of luxury, influence, and power.

I am sorry my flower. I am late. I hope you didn't forget about me. ~Somintu

Achieving his Dreams

In order for his plan to work Somintu needed to be patient. Vadania was 14 when they met; meaning he had roughly two years before she would have a line of suitors at her door for her own celebration. He spent that time learning about Quokka, Vadania, and her family. He also used it to prepare his band of con-men to be on their own. He knew their work was too sloppy to have them around without raising suspicions. Once the time neared for Vadania's 16th Birthday, Somintu kept an eye out waiting for her celebration. The old merchant had died and it appeared that Efsun and her now husband took over managing the estate and helping Vadania prepare for the big day. On the day of the celebration, he watched from the shadows as one suitor after another came to greet Vadania. She held a fake smile the entire time not showing interest in any man and slowly the smile faded as she became visibly disheartened. This was the time for his grand gesture. He swooped in just as she was about to announce who she would settle for and kissed her on the cheek. He was her hero, her savior, the one that rescued her from a life of mediocrity. She became his betrothed and there was much celebration while he smiled knowing everything was going according to plan. As the wedding day drew near, Somintu was the perfect groom. He sang for her, played his lyre for her, wrote her poetry, and brought her flowers almost daily. He knew she was in love and he was happy to let her think he felt the same. The only thing standing between him and his dream was a silly wedding and few unwanted future in-laws. Prior to his wedding, he met with his old "friends" to prepare a special surprise for his bride and her family. The day of the wedding he woke up in the best mood he could ever remember. He would marry his precious bride and they would become one. Everything she has would be his and he would have claim to everything she did. When he went to check on his bride her sister answered the door with tears in her eyes. She informed him that Vadania had run off and they could not find her. She handed him a letter saying it was left by Vadania in the middle of the night.
My Dearest Sister,
I am so sorry to let you and our family down. I love Somintu but I just don't think I am ready to get married. You are an amazing wife and mother and I have realized I am nowhere near good enough to meet the standards you have set. Please pass my love and apologies to Somintu and ask him not to wait for me. If we are meant to be together, we will find each other again.
All my love,
Dania

Somintu was filled with rage as he read the letter. How could his dream be taken away by a little girl getting cold feet? He would not let this go. First though he had to call off his "surprise." It would do him no good to kill Efsun and her family without being married to Vadania. He would wait for her return and live off of her family and friends while he did. He made sure to share her letter to all who would read it with tears in his eyes. He would cry out for his sweet little flower to return. Everyone took pity on him and a safe place to stay while he waited for the key to his dream to come back to her family.
