Earth

Geography

Earth is a terrestrial planet mostly covered in liquid water. The landmasses sport a variety of terrain, including deserts, grasslands, mountains, tundra, wetlands, and forests.

Ecosystem Cycles

Earth has many cycles essential to supporting the biosphere, including the water cycle, nitrogen cycle, and carbon cycle.

Localized Phenomena

Plate tectonics lead to earthquakes and volcanic activity. Earth's weather patterns include cyclonic storms. The planet's single moon, Luna, is largely responsible for the oceanic tides. Additionally, Earth is unique in the aspect that the sun and moon both appear as roughly the same size in the sky, leading to spectacular solar eclipses when viewed from the planet's surface or low orbit.

Climate

Earth has an overall temperate climate, although some regions vary in temperature from hot to cold and from wet to dry.

Fauna & Flora

Earth has an active biosphere, which is responsible for the green coloration of its landmasses and the significant oxygen content in its atmosphere. Dominant plants include grasses and flowering trees. Coniferous trees are also common, particularly in the colder regions nearer the poles. Animal life varies wildly by region, but mammals are the dominant large land animals almost everywhere. Aquatic ecosystems are dominated by fish and the air is dominated by birds.

Natural Resources

Earth is rich in a variety of natural resources, including bioproducts and metallic ores. Common agricultural products include grain, meat, alcohol, fiber, carbonic, and wood. Commonly mined ores include iron, bauxite, coal, and copper.

History

Earth is the crade of humanity and where the species evolved. As such, Earth is considered generally temperate and "average" by human standards. Human society developed in prehistoric times with the development of cities centered around agriculture. Over the ages, city-states developed into kingdoms which in turn were replaced by empires which were in turn superseded by superpowers. After the Fourth World War, the leading powers of Earth decided a single world government was necessary to prevent more world wars and nuclear annihilation. The United Nations became the de facto world government until humanity spread to other solar systems beyond Sol. The United Nations evolved into the Federal Interstellar Government with Earth at its center.

Tourism

Earth is the most popular tourist destination across the Federation. The bustling cities, vast expanses of nature, repositories of ancient artifacts, and government buildings all draw people from across known space.
