Scientific achievement
Spawned from war, a mission of peace, the Apollo program marks the first human steps outside of earth. As such, it is counted by most spacers as the beginning of a new age. Most offworld settlements count the years starting with July 1969, although the lengths of months, weeks, and days very from place to place.
The culmination of a 8-year program that consumed a total of 25.4 billion dollars, the Apollo program was founded by American President John Kennedy, the Apollo program landed Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon in 1969, while Micheal Collins remained in the command module in low lunar orbit. This marked the first of five successful Apollo landings, and future missions were prevented by government budget cuts.
