Aerilon

Aerilon is a small settlement in the mountains that has been lost for eons. It's built on top of a large rocky mountain with cliffs on most sides. It's basically impossible to reach on foot. Daredevils could theoretically get there, but climbing the cliffs would be treacherous indeed. Given the elevation, the settlement is hidden from view.

History

Aerilon was created before The Magic Collapse by people with a scientific curiosity. They used levitation to reach the mountain top. With their vast magical capabilities, they flattened a large section of the mountain and built their houses into the stone. Once more accustomed to the location, they used teleportation. They could easily teleport to the valley, grow some crops quickly using magic and continue their research on the mountain top.   They wanted to study the atronomy, which initially meant researching the orbit of the star, planets and moon. They invented lenses and created the worlds first telescope. They weren't satisfied with simple telescopes on a tripod. They went on to built a complete observatory, including a large telescope within a dedicated dome and rotating capabilities.

Lost

While all around them, more and more death and destruction happened, they were hidden from view and could safely continue their research. When The Magic Collapse happened, many of them lost their magical capabilities entirely, while others only kept a sliver of their former power.   With their deminished magical capability, their lifespan was also limited now. With only a few females in the group, keeping the community going was touch. Raising children on top of the mountain was also going to be difficult. So they vacated the settlement and started to settle in the valley. This left Aerilon abandoned, but they did their best to keep everything in good shape and protected from the elements as much as possible.

State

Being near the equator, the weather effects on Aerilon have been minimal. Given the high elevation, there have also been no plants to make the settlement overgrown. So the buildings are still in very good shape, albeit worn by the heat of the sun.
