Elf

This article is a Work in Progress. This article is still missing significant information.
Elves are people known for their innate magical abilities and their beauty. Elves have the highest number of Sorcerers, because of an ancient bloodline that runs through their veins. While humans often don't have the time or patience to study magic and unlock its powers, almost all Elves have some magical training and many are disciplined wizards.

Society

Elves love beauty in all forms, in nature, in each other and in their architecture. They live in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of ancient forests or in silvery spires glittering with faerie light.

Relationships

The Elves practice polyamory. They believe that limiting oneself to a single person is not what nature intended. Besides, with their long life spans and their veneration for elders, having only a single romantic partner has too many downsides. Many people have relationships with elders before they have relationships with people of similar age to themselves.

Internal Politics

To most, meritocracy would be the correct description of how the elven kingdoms are governed. But to those taking a more critical look, it quickly becomes apparent that those with the most merit are the elders, so the governance resembles a gerontocracy more.   While merit is certainly important, not everyone is granted the same opportunities. Having the right connections is of vital importance, which often means knowing someone who's already in a position of power and befriending them.   They have a strong preference for debate over backroom politics. Because of how common relationships between elders and younger generations are, there's actually a bridge across the generational divide, allowing new ideas to flow from the young to those in power. This greatly decreases the closed-mindedness of elders, increasing the effectiveness of debates.

External Politics

Given their internal politics, Elves will first try to resolve differences through diplomacy and compromise. The Elven kingdoms have stayed peaceful for most of their existence. Only when an invading force attacks them, do they wage war.   The Elven cities are their pride and joy, the result of thousands of years of intricate architecture created through artisan dedication. Walls don't appeal to their sense of beauty, so none of the cities have the usual defenses. As such, a buffer zone between their settled lands and outsiders is their wall.   This buffer most often consists of a lush forest and serves as their first line of defense. The attacking army first face off against mother nature and the creatures in the woods. Once the invasion gets too far, they go on the offense, revealing their skill with sword, bow and strategy.
