Cow Palace

Calamatlan Aurochs Exchange

Overview

A vast trading hall rises over the city, a single building the size of a keep. The formal name of the building is Calamatlan Aurochs Exchange, but nobody calls it anything but the Cow Palace.

The Business

The Calamatlan people believe you can trust what you see, so even big transactions are handled in person and with the goods at hand. The Cow Palace dominates the skyline of the port city of Tecaltemoc, taller and wider than any other structure. The complex stands as the largest trading floor for several types of cattle, meat, and leather in the world.

The Building

The redstone walls rise straight and true, pierced only by tall, narrow gaps in the upper reaches. Enormous flags fly, proudly showing the crests of the houses of Calamatlan. The interior of the Cow Palace includes dozens of offices for merchants who deal in meat and leather, as well as residential areas and bunk halls claimed by the ranchers when their crews are in town. There are multiple trading floors, several for small transactions, five of substantial size for bigger deals, and one vast hall where entire herds of Aurochs can be inspected and auctioned at once. The road between the Cow Palace and the prairie is similarly vast as herds come and go.

Nearby

Not quite coincidentally, though a bit less interesting to most visitors, the surrounding city also hosts the largest stockyards and slaughterhouse complexes in the world. The city has attracted the largest population of Lizardfolk outside Maapera, attracted to both the climate and the take-home benefits of working in the cattle slaughter trade. The restaurant scene in Tecaltemoc will not be all that interesting to vegetarians.
