The MMORPG picks up the narrative from the original
Final Fantasy XIV (also known as 1.0) at the eve of the 5th anniversary of the
Seventh Umbral Calamity, a catastrophic event that ended the original game's story. In the beginning, you play as one of several
Adventurer characters who travel to the city-states in seek of employment as they fund their expeditions into territory ordinarily off-limits to the average city-dweller. In this act, you come across several inexplicable events that set your character to become more than just a thrill-seeking freelancer, gaining an appointment from the planet itself to become her defender.
