Veldona
The Fractal Capital
"Is Veldona granted strength by the Empire, or is the Empire granted strength by Veldona?"
History
A nonstop, bustling metropolis for the past fourteen centuries, and before that one of the ancient seven great city-states of the Old Feylasi, even this inestimable construct of Fey mastery had humble beginnings.
Originally a location settled by the Old Fey in the Age of Madness, two hundred years before The Gift, the location proved to be a trifecta of perfect conditions. The mountains peaks to the east provided excellent defenses, the river to their west provided pure, clear waters, and the lands surrounding to the north and south proved to be fertile and easily farmed. Originally, the newly established town was host to only a few thousand Old Fey, donning simple walls and all the amenities of a pre-Nalistic world.
After the Gift and the ascension of the Old Fey to the newly minted Feylasi, Veldona exploded in a renaissance of feats of magic and science. The Firstborn and his Sons erected their six-sided Viridian Citadel of gleaming silver and Vönic jade, and their followers flocked to Veldona, establishing the city as a beacon for the worship of the First Gods.
In nearly the same breath, the Firstborn erected true walls around his chosen city. They rose a full sixty meters in a perfect circle around the Citadel, wreathing it with strong white stone, and with the wall the ground within rose as well, an area of about 150 square kilometers encompassed. This inner sanctum still forms the center of the city today, and the Viridian Citadel is visible from anywhere within even the outermost layers of the city.
Over the next several centuries as the other six ancient city-states rose, Veldona consolidated its power as the greatest of all. Its territory expanded, and with each major expansion a new ringed wall rose, transforming the town from a massive tower to a great step pyramid of the pinnacle of society. Not a single time in the entire Age of Dawn did Veldona fall, and its strength beget more strength as others were drawn to it.
In the first years of the Age of Conquest, Iro Sonovas declared Veldona as the seat of his power as he rose to prominence. At the conclusion of the Unification Wars, he fashioned the Imperial Palace around the Viridian Citadel, only adding to the beauty and splendor of the Inner Sanctum. It was also Imperator Primus Sonovas who decreed the New Order Infrastructure, reshaping the entire city of hundreds of thousands as a testament to their devotion to the First Gods.
In the Third Era, Veldona remained largely untouched, continuing its expansion in the orderly, tessellated fashion of the Sonovic Empire.
In the Fourth Era, Silena Rhaspor and her freshly established Hunt came to Veldona to witness the Cradle of Sael Nox. Two days after their arrival, eight Elder Children, including the largest ever recorded, emerged from the bowels of Linias Gorge followed by thousands of Spawn, barely ten kilometers from the outer wall. The following events, the Womb Massacre and the Siege of Veldona, are widely considered to be both the most heroic events of the Fourth Era, and the catalyst for the Fall of Rhaspor.
