Armaments

Armaments are power a wise man once said. This simultaneously explains everything and nothing about the items. These items appear as ordinary weapons in all ways. When used the weapon will display an extrodinary ability of varying styles and strengths. Some weapons just increase your strength, or a sword could cut through other swords as easy as a tree branch. Shields that can attract arrows or armor that lets you lift boulders. Others can wreak utter havoc by causing storms, shooting fire, or causing the very ground beneath you to rise up. These are more rare on the late, and they seem to be forged with fancy engravings or materials.
Despite being such a mainstay in the world no one really knows how they work or where they came from. There are no written records, or old tales of how they were brought into being. They just are. Did some old civilization toil away at a mystical forge creating weapons of power and then die out? Did they drop from the heavens by the gods or some otherworldly force? Many of the more powerful weapons have legends and tale woven about their almighty strength, but did the tale come before weapon was found, or did the tale make the weapon? Did its' history make what it is? And if that's the case can't a cup used by a family for years upon years have more history than a sword that sits in a closet for decades?
Well either way with the King hoarding them away in that old castle of his we won't be finding out anything soon that's for sure. Technically safer, but not exactly helpful for research purposes. But perhaps this old world has it's secrets hidden within somewhere. There are so many corners still unknown to us all.
