Alixya
The Goddess of Water
Alixya is the goddess of the seas and oceans. She brought the the selkiefolk into being to give a voice and a sentience to the water that she loves. You can hear her joy in the whispering of the waves in the night air and her anger in the water that smashes against the cliffs
If you stand at the water's edge and weep she will come to you, draw you close and restore your hope. She is the mother of all the folk who hold their allegiance to the sea, but beware, as her wrath can be great and destructive. Alixya distrusts those who turn their backs on the waters of her home and instead place their faith in the fragile foundations of the land.
Alixya symbolises the unity of those who dwell in or near the sea. She is a mother to the lost and forgotten, and a hope to those in dark places. Her followers teach warmth, friendliness and foster a sense of family.
No holy book has ever been written by the followers of Alixya but instead they sing a ballad which has been passed down for generations. The Song of the Sea documents the tale of the world's creation and the birth of the selkiefolk. It is taught to the young as a reminder of where they came from and a promise of where they will go when they become weary of life on the surface.
The Eldest Sister
Alixya is the eldest of the two living goddesses, and a bringer of chaos to the world. After the first war of the gods, her and her sister, Etrea, began to fight against each other. They each blamed the other for the death of Drae, their younger brother, and their grief and anger divided them. In order to protect her people, Alixya created a safe haven in the seas and oceans. She is worshipped by the selkiefolk and all others who live in the sea, and in return she does her best to keep them safe.Holidays
The summer Solstice
On the longest day of the year, the selkiefolk leave the ocean and spend the night dancing on the shore and worshipping Alixya. During this time, the largest number of human and Selkie relationships begin. The winter Solstice
On the shortest day of the year, the selkiefolk take a pilgrimage to the Renea, the home of their ancestors. This journey is taken every year from the ages of 16 to their final year upon the surface.Divine Symbols & Sigils
Water and wave symbols are often used to denote the places blessed by Alixya. They are also often tatooed behind the ears of those who follow her. This ritual takes place at age sixteen, after Mealia (the month before their sixteenth), where selkies are mature enough to make the choice to follow Alixya independently.
