New Years Resolutions 2024
Reading Challenge
Throughout Worldember I read lots of amazing articles by lots of amazing worldbuilders so narrowing it down to ten was a challenge. Instead of picking 10 article by 10 different authors, I have chosen to pick six different authors who have taught me something about worldbuilding and showcase one or two of their articles. So, in no particular order we have *drumroll*...PrincessESH
PrincessESH wrote about dragons for most of Worldember and being one of my favourite mythological creatures, I just has to feature them here. I loved how they managed to create so much diversity between the different species of dragons, but, most importantly, I enjoyed reading about them.Tower Vex
Fierce and fiery dragon known to make its nest in abandoned buildings
Skairunner
Before Worldember, I hadn't read any of Sky's articles but as soon as i did, I couldn't stop reading them. Although I write fantasy myself, I am also a massive sci-fi nerd, so I was amazed by the detail in all of the articles about the different spacecraft and technologies. I also really like how Sky's articles are presented and it has made me want to focus more on formatting this year.Nnie
I really enjoyed the way that Nnie's articles tell a story and make the world feel alive. It makes the world feel real to me and I think that that's a skill I would like to build on in my own worldbuilding. Also, the artwork always makes the articles feel so much more colourful and alive.Mochimanoban
What to say about Mochi? I have loved every single one of their articles that I have read. They format their articles really well so that even 1000+ word articles feel easy to read. As I said previously, formatting is one of my big goals for 2024 and I aspire to reach this sort of level of formatting.Stormbril
I had to feature Stormbril purely because of the magic they work with CSS. Every time I look at their world, I find another thing that I would never believe possible in WorldAnvil. On top of this, their writing is amazing and I still struggle to comprehend the fact that they wrote almost all of worldember in a single article!Notahumanhand
Wow,wow,wow,wow,wow... Notahumanhand managed to write over 150,000 words during worldember and this article was only part of them. For 8000 words, the formatting of this cookbook along with the table of contents make this article a surprisingly easy read. It really brought to life the cultures and peoples of the world and made you think about their everyday lives. My 2024 Resolutions
CSS
My main goal for 2024 is to redo the css for Iastarene. I have a lot of issues with the current theme, including accessibility issues due to poor contrast text. I care a lot about my world looking good, but also being readable by anyone who wants to. This will certainly be a tricky goal and may not happen for a few months, but I will soon be beginning work in a CSS test World in order to progress towards completing this goal.Formatting
I often struggle with my articles becoming the dreaded wall of text and so I want to work on my article formatting in 2024, this does somewhat go hand in hand with my CSS goals, and I will continue to work on them together.TTRPG
My biggest goal for 2024 is beginning to write my own ttrpg. This is something I've wanted to do for a very long time and will hopefully start to become a reality this year. So, i hope you all have an amazing 2024 and write all sorts of amazing articles. Good luck everyone, and a happy new year!
