Ka'iulani of the Tuhinga

Tēnā koe, I am Ka'iulani. A young monk from the Tuhinga of the Herekore Islands. Recently I have reached the age to leave the temple and learn about the world. Maybe one day I'll become a true Archivist.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ka'iulani has an athletic body. She is quite thin and isn't very tall.

Body Features

Her skin is tanned to copper coloured.

Facial Features

Ka'iulani has a Polineasian build in which she has a fuller upper lip and a broader but flattere aquiline nose. Her head is oval shaped and she has a lot of freckles. The sharp eyebrows are close to her almond shaped hazel coloured eyes with dark brown spots. Her hair is dark bronze brown.

Ka'iulani keeps her head shaved.

Physical quirks

On her chin, Ka'iulani wears a Ta Moko. Her ears are wide and long, in which she carries several earrings.

Special abilities

Ka'iulani is well trained in martial arts. Although she is trained with different weapons, the quarterstaff is her favorite.

Apparel & Accessories

Simple jewelry are not uncommon. Like earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Specialized Equipment

Her specialization lays in unarmored melee fighting. Regularly without a weapon.

Personal history

I was born 18 years ago on the Herekore Islands as a Kaewa, or Traveler. When I was still a baby my parents died and I was given to the Tuhinga, the templeship of the Archives, to become a monk. There I was raised by the other monks to eventually become a Librarian. When I came of age, I had my first Ta Moko. Because I was often distracted and went out on adventures on the ship or the islands, the monks were worried I could not do my Whakamātautau when my time came. But here I am.

Education

I have trained at the Tuhinga as monk and to become a Librarian. I am still a Librarian in training. Because the temple is a ship, I have learned to sail and find my way on open sea.

Employment

Currently, I am doing my Whakamātautau. A quest to prove my competence as a Librarian. If I fulfill this quest, I will be a real Librarian.

Morality & Philosophy

I do not want to kill. I think it is not my place to make a decision if someone can live or die. I was thought to observe, but not to intervene. This is not always easy, as I too am sometimes part of the story.

Motivation

Someday I hope to become an Archivist with my own temple. I think nothing is immortal in flesh. But stories can live on forever. Those stories could help understand or to learn. Or maybe just to remember.

Likes & Dislikes

I love adventure, traveling and meeting all these new people. In every corner seems to be something new and exciting. I also love sailing and being on the water.
I really do not enjoy long lectures. I do not really understand why some people feel the need to control the lives of others.

Vices & Personality flaws

At times, I can be distracted and then I forget what I was actually doing. The monks say I often don't think before I do, which is why I regularly end up in trouble.

When I am alone, I sometimes talk to myself.

Contacts & Relations

My mentor is Ihaia. He is wise and strong. I think he is around 40 years old. he really really loves the food 'Paki', but he really does not like trouble. Ihaia is still at the temple.
I have 2 best friends: Kaia is around my age. She is very quiet and shy and she reads a lot. She is also very responsible. At the moment she is out on a mission.
Tangaroa is also around my age. He is very loud and very funny. We often get in trouble together. He is also currently out on a mission.
Recently I met these new people on my quest and they became friends aswell:
Herbert is a Firbolg. I think he is very old, but also very wise. He has a lot of funny herbs and when he sleeps, he can turn into a bear. Which is very soft. He is my favorite place to sleep. I often call him Herbie.
Tsundue is an Aquan. She can be very strict, but she is very kind and motherly. She seems very cannie.
Banur is an Hobgoblin. He might be my age, but he often acts way older. He really is a leader and brings order when there is chaos.
Robin is a human. He has really fancy hair and can sing very well. I think he is popular with women. He is also always the one to see if everyone is okay.

Religious Views

In my culture, we do not believe in a divine entity like a God or in an afterlife. When you die, you die. There is no God who gives special powers. We do however have our Ancestors. The first Ancestors, the ones who came to the Herekore islands, and all ancestors after them. We believe someone lives forth in the stories they leave behind. That is why we collect stories we deem important. Not only of our own people, but also others.

Social Aptitude

I really enjoy being with other people and meeting new people. Making new friends. I am not afraid to talk to strangers.

Hobbies & Pets

I have a very large goat. His name is Maui, which means legendary hero. He is my mount and animal companion. He might not say much, but he is very soft.
