Suseki Wall
It was the first time that Momono had set foot on Suseki's Wall. As a child, he had always spent it on the farm with the shadow of the wall looming over them. His father said the shade helped some of the crops. He had come from a family of Cabbage and Lettuce farmers and joined the Warriors of the Watch. He wanted to protect the Moriko Empire and people like his family from the scourge of the Queen's army.
Several years of training and Momono finally made it to the wall where he would be of use. He felt a great sense of honor being here. HIs commander shouted for him to follow as he had become lost in the beauty of the view. Momono chased after the commander.
"You will be part of the 367th tower's watch. You will eat in the tower, sleep in the tower, and die in the tower," his commander explained. "Your job is to keep a lookout for any invading forces by the Queen. Should you spot them, light the signal fire, awaken your comrades, and prepare for battle."
The commander opened a door into the 367th watchtower. Inside were about a dozen other soldiers. Many were occupied with books, playing cards, and board games. At seeing the commander enter, they lined up with an amazing agility.
"367th, welcome your newest recruit." Everyone in the watchtower looked to Momono, slammed their fist to their chest. "I assume you all will get him acquainted with your routine."
"Absolutely sir," a bald soldier responded.
"Very good. Extra supplies are not far behind. Have a good night warriors." The commander left Momono with the strangers.
"Well rookie. Ready for tonight's watch?"
"Yes."
"Noriyuki, you're with the rookie tonight!"
Momono was escorted up to the roof of the watchtower by a man with jet black hair tied in a knot. The sun had been setting over the mountains. The clouds of poisonous gas, erupting from the horizon were highlighted. He was reminded by the importance of this post. The two walked around the watchtower, gazing out into Northern Noshotan. Momono nearly passed out from boredom.
"Hey, what is that?" Noriyuki's voice shook Momono from falling asleep. Momono looked out to see where Noriyuki was pointed. The two saw a massive rock set aflame and hurdled through the air.
"Oh shi-" Momono was interrupted by Noriyuki firing off a spell. A ball of fire flew through the air and collided with the rock. The two exploded in the air.
"Light the signal fire! It's a full invasion!"
Momono ran to the signal fire and started to light it. An arrow flew through the air and landed right next to him. He worked faster, hoping the arrows wouldn't hit him. He got a spark to light. A sharp pain struck his calf. He looked and saw an arrow sticking out of his leg.
Momono yanked it out. Noriyuki turned to see him with a bloody arrow in hand.
"Get downstairs! See the medic now!"
"No, I'm fin-" Momono fell to the ground. The poison had coursed through his veins. He wouldn't last the hour to see the incoming army attempt to breach the wall.
Purpose / Function
The Suseki Wall is a nearly 2000 mile stretch of wall that divides Southern Noshotan (the Moriko Empire) and Northern Noshotan. It was built under the rule of Emperor Suseki in order to defend Southern Nosotan from the invading forces of the Queen of Decay.
Alterations
The only alterations that have been done to Suseki Wall have been inside its towers. As technology advanced, so to did their interiors.
Architecture
Suseki Wall has embrasures along both sides of its 20 ft thick main structure. Machicolations can be found on both sides. This is to ensure that the wall can be defended, even if intruders manage to punch through the wall or other troops are dropped in behind the wall. The wall stands about 45 ft tall. About every 3 miles is a watchtower that stands much higher. These watchtowers house all of the equipment needed for a Warrior of the Watch including a Signal Brazier.
History
The Suseki wall has been at the center of every major conflict since it was first erected by the powerful mages of Emperor Suseki's court. Many sections of the wall have taken extreme damage and been rebuilt. Every stretch of the wall has its own story which is too long to record here.
