Celebration of Death
As you enter the square where the church sits, there are white lights spread out throughout the darkness, making everything illuminated but in a shadowy sort of way. Guards and acolytes are passing out white feathers that lightly glow to those who raise a finger. or two, symbolling how many they need. They take it gently and hold it to their chest. Does anyone take a feather? He says to you "one feather represents a soul you have lost, if you have not lost someone close to you you can think of those who you perhaps didn't know and wish their souls rest."
You look up as Morawen stands at the head of the stairs to the church. The acolytes with their black, gray, and red robes are on the edge of every third step. They are facing towards each other. She is in a completely white robe or dress the comes up just passed her chest in two spike like points. Her shoulders are bare but the sheer sleeves flow down her arms. It is a stark contrast to her dark skin and hair. She looks out to the crowd her face solemn but proud.
She touches her throat and her voice booms throughout the crowd. (cathedral - voicemod) She says, "Death is but part of life; fear it not, evade it not, and view it not as evil. To fear death delivers you into the hands of those who can bring death upon you. Die with dignity, neither raging nor seeking to embrace undeath. Do honor to the dead, for their striving in life brought Ikeshia to where it is now, and to forget them is to forget also where we are now- and why." That does not mean we shall not fight for our lives, for they are precious, and we did fight. We lost a lot of good men and women. The dead remind us that fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. They remind us to live life to the absolute fullest. We cannot defy death for the only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. We were not fearful of death, and they were not fearful of death for they died knowing it was their time, accepting it was their time. They died an honorable death. A death Inigo would be proud of and accepts those in this glorious after life. May the souls of our loved ones fly high tonight."
She nods very slightly and takes a step down the first stair. As she does so a violin begins to play somewhere in the distance. As she continues to walk step by step the music echo's throughout the night. She gets to the bottom of the stairs and you see that the dress has a trail that drags behind her a good 5 feet. As she passes you, followed by the acolytes that were on the stairs paired 2 by 2 you see that the back of her dress comes down to the tip of her backbone exposing all of these white tattoos that seem illuminated in the lights. As the Acolytes then come to pass the crowd begins to follow them.
You all walk through the town for a good 40 minutes before she makes it to the outside of the gates and then to the beach. Here there are more acolytes lining a far ways down between the sand and the water. They stand with white torches raised. The ocean breeze disturbing the fire's natural pull to the sky. The glistening moon not quite full lies in the center of everything reflecting onto the water. As Morawen gets closer to the water the torches are positioned out in front of the acolytes and the people who were walking in the front row stop and so do everyone else as they begin to come onto the beach. Morawen however keeps walking towards the water. But her feet don't go under the water, they walk on top of the water, almost as if walking on the path the reflection of the moon has created, just for her, just for this very moment. She continues to walk until she us about 50 feet out on top of the water, the train of her dress floating on the surface of the ocean. She lifts her arms up and the torches raise once more and the music stops. Everyone around you lifts up their feathers into the sky. You watch as Morawen kneels down onto the water, hands still raised. And her tattoos begin to glow a bright white. The torches are then brought down and waved in a slow arch and then are put out in the sand. You hear only a few people sniffling and see as most of them let their feathers go, whispering a name in the darkness. (voicemod-whispers) The feathers take on a slight glow as a name is uttered and they fly into the sky. It is truly a beautiful sight in the darkness.
Nero, you let go of the feather of your father and it flies brilliantly and brightly into the sky, swirling this way and that. As you follow it with your eyes it seems to go a bit higher than the others. When you whisper Lily's name and let go of the feather, it doesn't leave your hand, it just sits there lightly glowing in the palm of your hand. Perception- almost pulsing.
Dierdre, your feather, fades away in your fingers before you can even let it go. Ter'an, yours flies with the rest. Ikalgo?? Rain?? Wyanel?? - If parents, both fly away, duller color.
As you watch all of the illuminated feathers fly into the sky, most do eventually land in the very calm water, making it look like a glowing stars on the sea. It is beautiful and magical and nothing you've ever seen or experienced before. The music begins playing after the last feather has been released. After a good amount of time, Morawen eventually stands from her place in the water. Her tattoos still glowing she turns her body to face the crowd and there you can see the tattoos on her face are also glowing as well as her eyes. A few people step forward and begin walking into the water, they do not float as she does, but continue to walk until they are completely emerged. She looks to them with a sad smile. She then looks back to the crowd and slowly places her hands out to the side of her and all of the glowing feathers in the water sink beneath the surface, like beautiful souls laying to rest. After a minute, her tattoos stop glowing and her eyes return to normal. She walks back to the shore, looks at all of her people and bows her head deeply. Everyone begins to disperse back into the town. They are arm in arm, or smiling, but overall the vibe is peaceful and calm and accepting. Fen, Hicks and Salamon stay behind.
