Fordsmouth

Government

While formally ran by an elected Governor, Fordsmouth is, in effect, an Oligarchical Plutocracy. In recent memory, the Governors of Fordsmouth have all had connections to prominent businesses or have been members of noble houses with strong ties to the city or region.

Defences

Nestled into the fork of the Ganarane river, Fordsmouth takes advantage of its natural protection around the southern half of its perimeter. The rest of the city boundary is protected by a wall, built primarily from the stone imported from the Chainforge Mountains to the north of the city.

Industry & Trade

Due to its location near the Chainforge Mountains, much of Fordsmouth's industry is involved in some way with mining, refining, or manufacturing.

Geography

Fordsmouth is located centrally in Kedrain at a fork in the Ganarane river, approximately 300 miles from its inlet at the Palagath Sea, as the crow flies. The river makes up the city border on two sides, while the remainder of the city perimeter is made up of a stone & timber wall. The city's holdings have a total area of 8.12 square miles, of which 7.56 square miles is land, and 0.56 square miles is water. The city proper covers the 0.6 square miles nearest the fork in the river.

Natural Resources

The area immediately surrounding Fordsmouth is densely forested, and the lumber trade extends along much of the forest's edge. Deeper into the forest, game of all sizes can be found, and is a major food source for the city and its inhabitants. Separated from the Chainforge Mountains by approximately 200 miles of the Ganarane river, the stone and ore are nevertheless mined and floated down the river to Fordsmouth year-round.
