The Wasteland of Ezeth

A now barren Kingdom, Ezeth is unable to bear more than the sparsest of crops, water is a scarce and treasured resource, and strange things lurk in the sand dunes. It's not strange for people to go missing on the regular, but with nowhere else to go, Ezeth has become known as the last bastion of civilization on the continent of Ilela.

A (Brief) History of Ilela

Once a land of prosperity and magic, the four Kingdoms shared in each others success until The Shattering.   The Shattering brought forth ruin to the most developed cities and decimated the land. The heroes of old failed; a plague was released into the Northern Country of Tragor, cultists in the Southern Province of Imea summoned four of the Underworld's Archdukes and hordes of demons and devils, and the greed of nobles in the Eastern Kingdom of Cadrin summoned dragons beyond counting. Ezeth remains the last inhabitable part of the known kingdoms. It's a well-regarded mystery as to why Ezeth was the only area not to fall to ruin.   Before the Shattering, it was a quiet country, the least assuming beside the resplendent wealth and power of Tragor, Imea, and Cadrin. It's hard for a desert landscape to have the surplus of crops and exports of Cadrin, or the mining resources of Tragor in the Northern Mountains, or the exotic fruits and wealth of magical laylines of Imea. Instead, Ezeth's harsh and unforgiving deserts were the home to criminals and exiles. Unwilling to deal with the worst of their criminals, the other countries sent their exiles and banished to the unforgiving deserts of Ezeth, though many perished, and fewer were able to make any living like what they had before. It was already the toughest country of the four as far as environment alone, let alone any of the calamities that followed.   150 years after the Shattering, the last survivors of those magnificent Kingdoms have settled into Ezeth, having nowhere else to go. The few that inhabited Ezeth before have not taken well to the refugees, and without the resources through trade, it's turning into an "Eat or be eaten" kind of world. There are no glittering cities or courts of nobles any longer, but small villages- if you could still call them that. Bands of scavengers take what isn't theirs, roaming the sands of Ezeth, making travel near impossible. Even the magic that once flowed freely throughout the world has run dry and disappeared almost entirely.   For the residents of Ezeth, it seems like all hope for a better world has been lost.

Hope Yet Remains

Little stock is placed in heroes, but there are those that still fight. Pockets of resistance fighters in Cadrin, alchemists traveling through the land, providing what healing they can, and rumors of pockets of magic hiding deep within the land are the light of hope still found in this land.   Will you take up the fight to take back the Shattered Lands?     Credit: Cover Image by Sydney Anderson
