Cuendillar, The Hearthstone
At the highest peak of the highest mountain in Yggdrasil lies Cuendillar, also known as the Hearthstone. This ancient formation serves as the homeland of the goliaths, a proud and storied people whose influence once spread across the entire Salamander Coast. They are among the most skilled stoneworkers and architects in the world, and some of their perfectly-crafted buildings and villages still stand throughout the continent, even if most people don't have the knowledge to spot them.
The goliaths are Cuendillar are divided into four clans, each with a different symbol, color, and role in society.
First, there are the Anakalathi, the scribes and historians. Their symbol is the wise owl, and their color is a deep, calm blue.
Next, there are the Shi'e-Ka, the warriors and defenders. Their symbol is a pair of crossed blades, and their color is a passionate red.
Third, there is the Katho-Olavi, the shamans and soothsayers. Their symbol is the mystical elk skull, and their color is an ominous yellow.
And finally, there is the Kalukatho, the wandering goliaths. Their symbol is the wayward raven, and their color is a forest green.
The Anakalathi, Shi'e-Ka, and Katho-Olavi still call the Hearthsone home. But the nomads, the Kalukatho, are considered to be a lost clan. Wherever they wandered off to last, no one has heard from them for several millennia.
These days, seeing a goliath outside of Cuendillar is a rare occurrence, as the few that remain tend to stay in the mountains. However, a very small percentage of goliaths are born with hair on their head, something that the clans see as a good omen. Those born this way are sent off into the world to study its ways and gather lore. If it were not the work of these selected few, the goliaths of the Hearthstone may completely lose touch with the rest of the continent.
