Sage Sedah
Malachite was born in The City of Brass to Gadweh Sedah, an Ifrit female, and Gonk, a male human slave. Gadweh took Gonk for her own and kept him throughout Malachite’s formative years before getting bored and killing him. Malachite, although very young, was heavily affected by the absence of a father figure and grew a hatred for the slave trade because of it. Malachite swore to protect those that couldn’t protect themselves and has dedicated his life to being, in his eyes, a vigilante. He has worked in the incense business for the past 35 years, more recently with his partner Valfirith Magma, a 39-year-old Tiefling female. Malachite is not very charismatic, nor does he necessarily want to leave the elemental plane of fire. She has connections in the material plane and does the transport for Malachite’s incense, causing his business to boom. Seeing this opportunity, and with the hesitant help of Valfirith in their 23-year partnership, Malachite has helped release over 20 slaves from the slave trade in The City of Brass, completely unnoticed by the trade. During the day, Malachite spends most of his free time in the copper mines. In his eye, the more time he volunteers down there, the fewer slaves they’re going to need. Spending time in the mines, he gets to know some of the slaves and the inner-workings of the slave trade. Recently, Malachite stumbled upon a baby Beholder about to enter the city. Something about that creature made Malachite make a rash decision, so he grabbed the Beholder and went into hiding, knowing that people would notice this time. People would be looking for him and he wouldn’t be able to go back to his normal life. At that moment, he realized that he had to, no, he wanted to start over. Malachite was going to leave the City of Brass, something he never thought he would do. He and Donta (his new beholder friend) would escape the City of Brass and start their life over as adventurers. Planning his escape with the help of Valfirith, he made his move three days later. But not before running into Evanora Wister, a divine girl in her final hours before being sold as a slave. Before she could be sold, Malachite decided to break her out and take her with him on his way out of the city. Being chased through the streets, they soon became outnumbered. Malachite couldn’t fight them off and was about to lose the battle when Evanora unlocked powers that have laid dormant within her until that moment. Together they were able to kill the mercenaries and escape the Elemental Plane of Fire with the help of Valfirtith. They were free, for now.

Started by Erikrac Durthane the brother of the Dwarven king of Nar Tharam, Baerin Durthane . He had seen the worst of the slave trade first hand, through his brother’s rule as leader of Nar Tharam. He has been working with a small group of people that call themselves The Vestiges of Liberation who are trying to end slavery once and for all. During Valfirith’s travels selling Malachite’s incense, she heard tales of The Vestiges of Liberation and sought them out to tell them about her and Malachite’s accomplishments. They recruited Malachite and Valfirtith to establish the first-ever charter for the VoL in The City of Brass.
