The Myth of the Old Blood Throughout Illica

The Old Blood is a common mythos used by many people all around the world of Illica. Its story, purpose, and power takes many forms; it is an idea perpetuated throughout history and across cultures with no clear origin. Here are four areas of Illica where the mythos remains both popular and tangible to this day:   1. In Efera, the Old Blood symbolizes a connection to the primordial beings of nature. It is a touchstone to the beginning of all things, and those who are born with it are said to be closer to the primordial gods than anyone else. To some, this belief has been corrupted and used to instigate a resurgence of blood magic in the nation.   2. In Tarkir, the Old Blood is a thing of nobility and prestige. It refers to those who are part of the bloodline of the first king of the nation, King Omen the Good. Tarkirians often place great stock in lineage and honor, and those who can claim even a tiny familial relationship to the first king are viewed highly.   3. In Jörmungandrë, the Old Blood traces lineage to Asri and Vanri, the founders of the nation many centuries ago. The power of the Old Blood is very real in this part of the world, as all of Jörmungandrë's most powerful leaders are tied to it. It is believed that those who possessed the Old Blood must be baptized in the dew of Yggdrasil, lest they lose their way and become controlled by darkness.   4. In the Gemstone Archipelago, the Old Blood has ties to a long lost vampiric society. The only remanence of these people is their blood-colored currency, the likes of which are still in use in both the Underdark and criminal worlds of the continent.
