Waterswake
Initially, Waterswake was designed to be a defensible resource hub whose waters would deter invaders. But as the economy of the nearby city Summersrest grew, and after it became an official part of the nation of Belaklara, Waterswake was reduced to a simple fishing village and agricultural center for the northern portion of the nation. Like all of Belaklara, Waterswake is partially defined by the divide between it commoners and wealthy elites. Merchants from Summersrest often visit, taking their pick of the many fine crops that Waterswake produces so they may profit off them in the markets. Local government is dominated by a mayor, but voting is a rare occurrence as the elected official tends to remain in the office until death.
On the upside, the town has seen an increase in tourism lately. The few wealthy residents of Waterswake have taken to maintaining elegant floating gardens, and their beauty often draws people from afar. While visitors are in town, the farmers can often benefit from hosting festivals and markets, their only chance to circumvent the dominant economy of Summersrest. Because of this, things in Waterswake has become a little more idyllic and peaceful than in the rest of Belaklara. Some argue the recent synergy between the wealthy and working class should serve as a model for the future of the nation.
