Adventuring in Illicid
Tone & DM Style
On the spectrum of DMs I lean heavily towards the Narrative over the Mechanics, and I typically aim for a tone of Fantasical Suspense. I often use secrets, hidden rolls, and descriptions are open to some interpretation. I also tend to avoid plot armour, and I firmly believe that actions have consequences. These are generalizations though, and individual campaigns may differ. This is why we have a Session 0.
The World
Illicid was created with the intention of running Sandbox style campaigns and other player driven adventures. While most campaigns will confine the open world to a smaller portion, you can explore anywhere within those boundaries at any time you'd like. Just be aware that the world is constantly in motion, and your enemies aren't likely to take a break just because you are!
Using World Anvil
World Anvil is a tool both for me as a Worldbuilder & DM, as well as for my Players to use both in and out of sessions. Any articles that are visible to you are considered public knowledge that Player Characters might know, whether from books, travels, or simply word of mouth. It is, however, up to each Player to decide how much their character would reasonably know. All articles written within World Anvil are written from the perspective of the Ithir Arun Society, the primary world leader in education and history.
As this is a constantly growing collection from many adventures and campaigns it is never necessary to know any information that is not in the Primer for your campaign. As certain articles become relevant to your campaign they will be added to the Primer and your attention will be drawn to them during sessions.
Recording
All sessions done in the world of Illicid are recorded and posted to the World Anvil campaign page for reference
Economy
I hate the regular idea of a D&D economy. As such, I've gone to lengths to put in a proper functioning economy for the world. As such, expect that prices for items will be quite a bit different than what would be found in regular source books, as well as possible wages.
Planar Travel
As of the Fourth Age of Illicid, which is the current age, the concept of "planes" is known only in highly educated circles, and not a common topic for people. There are no known portals between the planes, and travelling between them is something that only crazy wizards would attempt, if it's even possible at all. This in turn effects some of the playable races that you're able to choose from.
