Army combat rules are a quick and concise way to track large groups of combatants, split into different armies.
Combat
Combat with armies is fairly straightforward. Armies do not roll initiative, and exist outside of initiative order. Rather, on their turn the army's commander (typically a Player) can make an attack with their army against an opposing army. This does not use the player's Action, Bonus Action, Free Action, or Reaction, it is simply in addition to their regular turn. An army's commander is not required to attack with their army, however too many consecutive turns without orders can cause an army to lose morale!
When attacking, the army first rolls to see if they hit against the opposing army's AC. On a success they roll their Damage Die and decrement the total from the opposing army's Army Die. That army then cannot attack again until all other armies in the combat have made an attack.
Morale
Morale can never be higher than the maximum of the Morale Die, and if the Morale Die drops to 0 the army will disband and flee. The following list impacts morale, however is not exhaustive:
Character Abilities - some character's can use an ability to improve morale (ie. First Mate on a ship)
Each time 25% of an army dies - This causes army morale to be reduced by 1
Losing a Captain or Lieutenant - Army combat typically happens simultaneously with regular combat. When a character drops in regular combat will reduce their army's morale
Enemy Captain or Lietenant Killed - Conversly, an army's morale will increase when their leaders kill an enemy leader
If an army isn't given any orders for 5 consecutive turns they will lose 1 morale
Improving Your Armies
TBD. There are ways though
Army Stats
Army Die - A single die representing the number of people in the army, or the number of groups within the army in large scale conflicts. This is effectively the Army's Hit Points. Can also be called the 'insert army name' die
AC - The armour class of the army, it is equal to the base AC + Morale
Proficiency - A measure of an army's training, skill, and experience
Attack Roll - An army's attack roll is equal to 1d20 + Proficiency + Morale
Damage Die - Each army has a single attack die, representing the maximum number of enemies they are able to kill in combat per round
Morale Die - An army's morale is an additional bonus given to them based on the overall confidence of the individuals within the army, represented by a single die. Some events can boost the morale die, while others can cause it to be reduced. An army that drops to 0 morale will disband and try to flee.
