Political Titles of Merboitha

  • King/Queen
  • Duke (In Charge of a Province), Count (in Charge of a Castle/Military)
  • Baron (In Charge of a region), Earl (In charge of multiple Exarchs)
  • Sire (Leader of a Town/City), Exarch (Owner of a resource/landmark)
  • Administrator

  • Moving up the ladder

  • Administrators are appointed by a Sire or Exarch and are tasked with daily upkeep of certain stations pertaining to their leige.
  • Sires are electred by their communities every 4 years. They are in charge of a single town, and the counties surrounding it. They answer to their local Baron/Baroness
  • Exarchs are appointed by Earls, usually through financial means, and often are hereditary titles passed down since they own the land these resources are placed on
  • Sires and Exarchs have little political power above their station and rarely talk to their Duke themselves
  • Barons and Earls are both titles given, often purchased and passed down through bloodline, by the Duke. They are honorary members of the Duke's court and are expected to advise him of the state of the province. Barons are chaged with keeping track of towns (sires), while Earls are in charge of resources (exarchs)
  • Both titles are flaunted as prestigeous, but truly carry no weight. They are little more than administrators for the Duke.
  • Dukes are bloodline titles given by the first King of Merboitha. They consult the King regarding their provinces.
  • Counts are military commanders who own a castle. Their titles are either purchased, won through acts of valour in war, gifted by the King, or claimed through building a castle and raising an army to fight for Merboitha.
  • Dukes and Counts both advise the King with equal prestige, but on different matters.
  • The King/Queen is in charge of the entire country of Merboitha. The title is passed down through blood (A Monarchy). While the King is advised by his Dukes and Counts, he also has his own privy council whom he appoints. It is often made up of the Arch-Cleric, the Arch-Mage, Commander-At-Arms, The Snake, and The Master of Lends
