The Aywin Governance

The Aywin are a series of primarily elven communities that split from the Cyverna Perfectora, centered around the city of Mortheris following the inception of the practice of Psionics. The people of Mortheris began to see themselves as more powerful and more faithful to The Being than their Nahoist counterparts due to their newfound power.

The baron at the time, Baron Rowan was a fierce loyalist to the traditional Nahoist beliefs however, and this led to an attempt at harsh reprisals against the growing Aywin community. These attacks, while often bloody, were ineffectual at actually ending the threat of the Aywin people who in response began to consolidate power in the hands of Feyrith Thevaris. Eventually, it became clear that the current baron was weak and Feyrith and the Aywin infiltrated the keep where the baron lived and were able to overthrow the region with only one death, Baron Rowan.

History

After the fall of Mortheris, Feyrith took control of the region as the new baron and quickly promoted many Aywin members to solidify control. Due to the growing power of the Aywin and the disdain much of the public had for Rowan the transition was quite smooth and what little resistance there was, quickly disappeared. The Western neighbor of Akogates, which was a primarily human settlement, was unsure of the new power to their east and were resistant to any discussions between the two cities. However, this changed when Feyrith offered to teach an extremely select few of Akogates best warriors simple psionic abilities, which quickly eased tension. Mortheris was not so lucky in the north where the powerful city-state of Malham had deep ties to the Nahorei and to the former Baron. With aid from other cities in the region and limited aid from the Nahorei itself Malham attempted to invade the far poorer and smaller Mortheris. The resulting campaign ended in disaster for the coalition as a combination of natural obstacles and organized resistance meant that much of the armies’ supplies were depleted before they were able to even reach the city of Mortheris. The coalition army lost over half of its men mostly from starvation, and many more from deserters who did not share the same views as the Nahorei and were fascinated by the Aywin abilities.

After the invasion failed, it became clear that neither side had the military capability to make serious progress against the other. This doesn't mean that the war stopped entirely however, as raids and border conflicts became a regular occurrence but neither side ever fielded a large army against the other. This meant that the war shifted to a political game where Mortheris had to attempt to covertly undermine the power of the Nahorei and its allies. The ultimate goal of these covert actions were to prepare for the Dukes death and the eventual succession crisis this would cause.
