The Chawe Woods (Shaw Woods)
One of the most striking features of the Chawe Woods are the Ashenwood Trees. Incredible, ancient growth, their bark is hard as iron while living but quickly turns to dust once it's been cut from the tree.
The Chawe Woods are located in the northeastern regions of Merboitha spanning the provinces of Somardia and Taria, as well as acting as a border between Merboitha and the Badlands to the East. They have a long and storied past ranging from evil orders of knights, supernatural events, and many other creatures residing within their borders giving rise to numerous superstitions from people in the surrounding towns and villages.
Ecosystem
The forest's ecosystem is largly built around the two varieties of Ashenwood tree. The first is Motherwood, or old growth. These trees are incredibly tall and old, thought to have been around since the beginning of the Ages. These trees are strong, defendable, and difficult to cut down. Along with this, they also share the common side effect of Ashenwood where it quickly crumbles to dust once severed from its roots. This makes cutting the trees down a very unprofitable endeavor. The elven kingdom that has claimed the woods as their home often make their civilizations around large clusters of these trees, below the foliage, but raised from the ground.
The second variety of Ashenwood is the Telil, the young growth. Unlike the Motherwood, Telil trees grow clustered together and bear spikey foliage. This makes them ideal homes for small creatures as the clusters are easily defended from larger foes.
