Emperor / Empress
The government of Empire of Illyria is a hereditary monarchy, with leadership passed down through the same family since its founding. The head of state passes to the oldest child of the current Emperor and has changed hands 14 times since its founding.
The ruler also acts as the head of the military with the Joint Chiefs of Staffs advising them on strategies movements of the Army, Navy and Special Forces. Rarely does the emperor take to the field of battle, but there have been a few notable examples of leaders who have directly led the forces of the empire into battle.
While the emperor has no official role within the church of the Prime Pantheon, traditionally they are invited to sit in on the Conclave when it is called. They do not have a vote in any of the proceedings or decisions that are made, they can speak the assembled clergy. Additionally, there have been two examples of the Emperor calling for a Conclave to receive the advice of the highest priests of the Pantheon.
When the current reigning monarch marries, their partner will take the title of Empress or Emperor, but will not have the same power or duties of the reigning monarch. Upon the death of the monarch, the rule will pass to the oldest child of the current ruler and the spouse of the previous ruler will take the title of Dowager.
The current Emperor is Ellwyn II who ascended to the throne in 296E after the death of his father, the previous emperor Solwyn IV.
