Swamp of Selnge

South of the Empire of Illyria on the border between it and the Kingdom of Moraat lies the Swamp of Selnge. This area covers a vast region, reaching from the edges of the Great Woods to the Flint Hills and even to the edge of Lake Milra. The Estan River flows lazily through the swamp, providing the water that fills this low-lying land.
Odd and twisted flora cover the swamp, creating a tangle of vegetation that outsiders struggle to find their way through. Even locals who have grownup in the area sometimes find themselves turned around in the still waterways. Thick mists often cover the ground, hiding the dangers that even in the best of circumstances are difficult to stop. Some even claim that the trees and plants move, purposefully trying to confuse and entrap the unwary.
The plants, though, can often have medicinal qualities and many alchemists and healers have traveled here to collect and buy rare specimens in hopes of curing hard to treat diseases.
Animals found in the swamp are often found no place else and can be deadly to those who travel the area unprepared. Massive alligators and snakes that can easily drag the unwary quickly under the murky waters to their death. Flesh eating fish and blood devouring leeches live within the black water. Hordes of swarming insects, some as large as a horse it is rumored, fill the air and can bring strange diseases to the unlucky.
The Snakefolk are native to this area and are commonly found wandering the twisted waterways on small flat-bottomed boats built from wood and hide harvested from the swamp.
