Aberration

The Aberration, sometimes referred to as the Great Aberration, was a cataclysm that took place and nearly brought the creatures of the material plane to extinction.   Though its exact nature is still a mystery religious scholars agree it began when a group of mages now known as the Blind Ones were tricked by Kalric, God of Lies , the God of Lies. Thinking they had been contacted by Kaelmar, the Old God of Arcana , the old God of Arcana and enemy of Kalric, Kalric used them to find artifacts known as the Searing Stones which had been used when the God's created the planes but had long been hidden and abandoned on the material plane by Kaelmar.   Kalric instructed the Blind Ones to bring the Searing Stones, extremely powerful interplanar artifacts, as an offering to him and promised them endless arcane knowledge and ascension to demigod hood. Blinded by their greed and ignorance, the Blind Ones did Kalric's bidding allowing him to rip a hole in the fabric of the upper planes, allowing passage across the Upper planes.   Kalric slayed Kaelmar, the old God of Arcana and fled back to the Darklands igniting a war in the Upper Planes between the Light and Dark Gods. The death of Kaelmar also had dire consequences across the planes, the essence of arcane power and magic began to become incredibly unstable having unimaginable consequences. Arcana users across the material plane felt the essence of their magic leave, rendering the use of magic all but dead until the end of the Aberration.   Unbeknownst to the peoples of Ilthia, an even greater calamity was about to befall them due to the Aberration. Countless cities, towns, and villages were attacked as dragons, who had before been a rare site, began to ruthlessly attack. The leaders of the realms raised some of the largest armies in history to try to fight back the dragon onslaught and for the only time in history all four major kingdoms signed the Fortitude Commitment , allowing free passage and coordination of all their armies to try and fight back the dragons.   After a series of upsets and lost battles, when all seemed lost, the leaders of the mortal realms, Emperor Eulthir Bronzefang of Drakzul, King Gareth Drakestark of Vexal, Clanschief Tyriv Darkstone of Khergorm and King Ellis Deftbride of Balemont were contacted by the Solar's of Light, Angels sent by the Light Gods to summon and bring the King's and their armies to the Upper Planes in a final battle to defeat the Dark God's and restore the balance in the Upper Plains.   All four of the leaders of the Kingdoms agreed, leaving to the Upper Planes. The realms of the material plane waited for days, awaiting the return of their sons, daughters, fathers, mothers and leaders. On the fourth day, which would be known as the Bright Rebirth, a bright blue energy enveloped the daytime sky. This is the day that the magic of the world was restored and the dragon's returned to their lairs. The peoples of the material plane had helped in restoring the natural order but at the cost of all those who had left.
