Imaginaerium, Day 11 - SUMMER CAMP

"What if I fall?"   Oh, my darling, what if you fly?
— Amy Tangerine
Summer Camp is finally upon us. By the time you're reading this, the prompts might've been released. Now it's time to hunker down and start writing!   But wait! Before you close the bunker door and say farewell to your loved ones for a month of manic writing, remember to come visit in the WA Discord! WA has one of the friendliest and most supportive communities on the intrawebs, and you will be well served by coming and hanging out with us. Share your work, read the work of others, spread likes, and comments. Beyond the writing, what makes Summer Camp really special is the community around it - so come join us!   If you're wondering how you can get people to notice your stuff during this wild and wonderful ride, I wrote a short guide on that. Check it out:

Book Recommendation

Liston’s speed was both a gift and a curse. Once, he accidentally sliced off a patient’s testicle along with the leg he was amputating. His most famous (and possibly apocryphal) mishap involved an operation during which he worked so rapidly that he took off three of his assistant’s fingers and, while switching blades, slashed a spectator’s coat.   Both the assistant and the patient died later of gangrene, and the unfortunate bystander expired on the spot from fright. It is the only surgery in history said to have had a 300 percent fatality rate.
— Fitzharris, Lindsey. The Butchering Art (p. 11).
The Butchering Art is by far one of the favorite books I've read in recent memory. It's a deep dive into Victorian era medicine, through the lens of one man trying to change it. The descriptions of some of the surgery rooms and hospitals wouldn't be out of place in a horror novel, and the story is as intriguing as it is flat out insane sometimes.   Highly recommended read, but perhaps not over lunch. :)

Video Recommendation

I really like watching Let's Plays, and especially of horror games. Cold Fear by Giragast is highly entertaining, with an impressive dive into some of the technical stuff behind the game making process. Horror games are always such good idea-fodder, and its nice background noise when writing.   Check it out here:

Music Recommendation

I just can't in good conscience not recommend my favorite band of all time...
Now, get to writin'!
