The history of Creation is a great sprawling tapestry, embroidered in blood and jade and gold, stretching from the furthest past to the current hour. Immortal demigods once shaped Creation to their will and made it a place of miraculous splendor.   Today, men fight with sword and mail in the ruins of ancient glory. The immortal Scarlet Empress has vanished, and the Realm she founded shudders as the Great Houses of the Scarlet Dynasty turn against each other.   The forces of the Wyld make war on the bordermarches of reality, and newly reborn heroes from the ancient past return to save the world—or doom it
Exalted is my favorite game that I'm not sure I ever want to play. It is a sprawling hot mess of broken rules and weird stuff, almost unplayable if you are with the wrong players. And I still love it, no matter how much it's hurt me in the past.   Beyond the borked rules, Exalted has a very unique setting, full of interesting details. From the flat world to the way magic energy flows through the world to the interesting take on demons (if you summon one, they start walking from hell to get to you... 7 days before you summon them. Yeah.)   It's real complicated to play, but it's worth doing once with the right group. Even if you don't, the setting is definitely worth a read. It has a 3rd edition out, which adds a lot of fluff and makes the rules even more complicated.   Get them here:

Video Recommendation

Sometimes, we can learn a lot by watching things kind of fall apart.   Lindsay Ellis have made an excellent video essay on the world building of the movie Bright, and how it doesn't really hold together. It's almost an hour long, but it is well worth the watch.

Check out the rest of his work, too. It's all very odd :D

Besides the awkward racial narratives, I actually really liked Bright. I enjoy settings, well movies rather, that don't hold your hand or take you on a narrative tutorial. "This is how the world is, just go with it."   But I know this is generally not a good practice.

I can understand why they did it. Establishing all that would have changed or be different would be very tough and Netflix budgets are notoriously low. That said - still pretty lazy to just go "Eh, it's all the same but also has orks" :D

I demand a second film or an explanation of the CENTAUR they never ever talk about. They just show it out of focus. I must know! Where do these horse people live?! Do they have horse people houses?! Do Centaurs like horses!?

That cluttered shelf picture is a must-save. I really liked it. Reminded me so much of those really old Eye-Spy books when I was growing up. I need a cluttered store-keep now.   Another great one.
