Summer Camp 2021 Imaginaerium: Day 14
Hello everyone!Folklore monsters are always fun, and frequently very strange. A while ago, a painted scroll from Japan called the Bakemono zukushi was released into this public domain site, and has a bunch of fun creepy-crawlier for you to be inspired by. You can find it here: If you are interested in Japanese monsters, I also recommend checking out Yokai, a collection of monsters and legends from across Japan's history. And as a bonus, here's someone explaining how you pronounce Zulu clicks. It's incredibly interesting!
For today's Imaginaerium, we are going to peer into the brilliant minds of the Anvilites who are taking part of Summer Camp and see what advice they have for us. One of WA's greatest assets is its amazing community, so lets get better together. Today, we're talking to Kefkejaco! :D
Tell us about yourself!
Hi everyone!I am Kefkejaco, or Kevin Jacobs in real life, from Belgium. My job is working as an IT consultant for a company that specializes in electrecity and water software. My current client is UK based and after corona I will likely travel there from time to time. My main language is Dutch but I also know English, French and some German and Japanese. I started worldbuilding already a long time ago while I was still in school by drawing maps and even creating some mods here and there for games. Once I started playing DnD however my true worldbuilding began and I have never stopped since! Since world ember last year I have started putting most of my stuff on World Anvil :)What world are you working on for Summer Camp
Since my DnD campaign takes places there I am of course working on my world of Niorath. I will now focus mainly on the Mizarin region since the campaign will likely take the players there. It will have a lot of expansion on my plant article, the Mizarin Nightlight. In addition to that I will work a lot on the catlike Nekorians and the warmongering but advanced Gnomes known as the Raitin. What is your past experience with Summer Camp?
This will be my first Summer Camp! I did participate in World Ember where I mainly focused on writing and got to 50k words. For Summer Camp I will focus less on words and more on layout and content. What did you learn from the past Summer Camps?
During World Ember I did not participate a lot in the community yet besides the occasional read an commenting. This is something that has increased during the last challenges thanks to all you amazing peeps ^^ I think that it is important to participate in the community and give others feedback to improve the experience and fun you will have during challenges. How do you go about generating ideas for the prompts?
I always start generating ideas by having a good overal view about what the people and cultures of my chosen area are like. This way I will have an easier time to come up with something that fits the theme. Another important inspiration of my worldbuilding is real world history. It always gives a good idea about how people react to events and it gives inspiration about worldbuilding civilizations. What's your approach to this Summer Camp?
My main writing will be done in the evenings and weekends. I will try to make a headstart during the weekends so I am not required to write a prompt every day during the week. Other than that I will just see what the prompt will be. Most of the time I already start having an idea during the announcement so I am looking forward to them :)What's your tricksfor staying on track?
I stay on track mainly by not overdoing anything. If I were to finish too much at once I would burn out quickly so I take my time to do some other things when I can.How do you handle those bad days when we get stuck or can't seem to get writing done?
If I don't feel like writing I mostly take a gaming day which always relaxes me. The next day I am most of the time keen to write again.Thank you Kefke! :DAnd here's some music to keep you company while you write:
I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
