Summer Camp 2021 Imaginaerium: Day 9

Hello everyone!
Today; a short video on deep sea gigantism, because the deep dark ocean is always terrifying even before dragons, cthulhu, or cybernetic sharks are added in!       And as a bonus, here's two polyglots going through their whole library of languages in one conversation:
Today, we'll talk to Naelin, the LORD OF BONES!

Tell us about yourself!

I'm a 28 years old trans guy living in Argentina and working in IT. I do ethical bone cleaning and taxidermy as a hobby and passion side by side with the worldbuilding I've been doing since I have memory. I also love flags, playmobils and watching videos about nerds enthusiastically nerding about oddly specific things.

What world/s are you working on for Summer Camp?

All of them! I plan on taking this opportunity to write about my two childhood worlds, Tierras Mágicas and Deiginundo, if a prompt fits them. Probably most of it will be on my main world, Symbols of Power, and if I get a good crazy idea I want to do some prompts in the wild Shakiraverse.
Check them out here:

What is your past experience with Summer Camp?

Summer Camp 2020 was what got me into the WA community, so I have super good memories of it. I started quite late, but still got to get my diamond badge, and I made a gazillion friends in mere days. I want to bring back that enthusiasm this time around!

What did you learn from the past Summer Camps?

SC was pure enthusiasm. I wanted the Diamond Badge, yes, but the badge was not the drive: It was the doing of the thing, the challenge that working by prompts represented, and the immense, titanic amounts of community hype that seemed to never get down at all. SC taught me that I can get incredibly good worldbuilding by trying my best to tie together seemingly unrelated ideas to give an initial concept layers upon layers of depth.

How do you go about generating ideas for the prompts?

First I try to use the prompts to give me the excuse to write about one of the thousands of still unwritten concepts I have laying around. If I really can't seem to find anything that fits, I panic until I figure out how to tie it to another concept (or to a song, if I'm going for Shakiraverse) to develop from there. The last resort is mentally teleporting to my island of Stunveldt where I always seem to find something interesting to write about. It works, somehow.

What's your approach to this Summer Camp?

I'm trying to go back to the spirit I had last year: Wanting the badge, but not doing it for the badge. Going back to hyping with the community, instead of going silent in order to write. I will take one or two weeks of vacation towards the end of it as well, so I can dedicate time to enjoy a niiiice worldbuilding fortnight.

What are your tricks for staying on track?

Accountability/writing buddies! Last year it was the Spanish Channel peeps, this time I will probably spend the days going into worldbuildy sprints with my partner Melior64, while sharing updates with all my Happy Sun Lodge buddies

How do you handle those bad days when we get stuck or can't seem to get writing done?

Rest and recharge, probably while doing some polishing/formatting of the existing articles, or getting some pictures done.
Thanks to Naelin for joining us today! :D
And here's some music to keep you company while you write. This is one of my favorites!
I have a new power with this page and pen. I can write whatever I want on it. I can tell whatever story I think we should tell.

Deep sea giantism is so scary!! Good imagination fuel though!   Thanks so much to both of you! It was so nice to be reminded of Naelins amazing childhood worlds.

It really is - we don't need to go to other planets, we just need to look into the deep oceans. XD

Thanks both for the interview :D Using the prompts as an excuse to force ourselves to write something from the to do list is a good way to go :p   So Qurilion, when can we see this article on a deep sea monster? :p That certainly gave me an idea for a new one XD

We'll see how the next set of prompts shake out, but now that you mention it, that could be fun. :D Shedim deep-sea monsters...   And yeah, I'm glad you liked it! That music is just so good, I like it so much :D

Yaylin! What a nice interview. I love his approach of concentrating on the hype and worldbuilding.   Also, deep sea monsters are scary. Cthulu was actually in my dream last night, but sadly I can't blame you for it. :P

Go go Naelin! I love seeing what Naelin do with his worlds, and how he approaches things. Always gives me a good burst of motivation.

I *adore* deep sea giantism. If I need an alien or magical creature, I always go look up to see what nightmarish thing researchers have found recently. I'm rarely ever disappointed!   Thanks for the inspiration today, Q. This morning I really needed a boost! :D
