Personal history
Argond was sent to the mines to work as soon as he was old enough to. While he was there, before he was promoted to his overseer potisions, he was recruited to be a member of The Shadows, hoping that it would lead toward real power.
Education
While he doesn't have a full formal education, he was taught to read and spends most of his free time doing so. The Steelhammer Guild also provided training and mentorship as part of his employment.
Employment
Argond has spent his entire career working for the Steelhammer Guild. His younger days were spent in the mines, but he was eventually promoted to various overseer positions.

Argond does not have a strong sense of morality. He'll take whatever actions necessary to advance his goals. That's not to say he isn't aware of morality, he'll conform to societal norms when needed to avoid being arrested or killed.
