The Great Famine
After the Destruction of Nyra, Imana plunged into a famine that lasted for nearly one hundred years. Drastic and sudden climate change was the driving force behind the famine. Summers were hotter and winters much colder, due to the reflective nature of Imana's new rings. Weather in general had become much wilder. The worst of that has passed as the rings have thinned slightly since their formation, but their effects are still present. Crops were adapted and farming techniques changed to allow crops to grow in the new environments.
The food shortages led to decimation of many population groups around the world. By the end of the famine, many populations had recovered, or were well on track to recovering. The one exception was the Dwarven kingdoms, which were nearly wiped out and never properly recovered. Some small enclaves of Mountain Dwarf still exist, but are largely cut off from the outside world. Hill Dwarf intermingled with Halflings in an attempt to survive. While there are a few older Hill Dwarfs still around, almost all of their descendants are at least partially Halfling.
The End of the Famine
By the year 97, food suplies had stabilized sufficiently that most civilizations considered the famine to have ended. Some communities still don't produce enough food to survive, but they are typically able to import from the regions that are produce extra.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
