Falondan-Corvinian War
A short, bloody conflict
The Falondans were caught entirely off-guard when an invading Corvinian force crossed over the eastern border and began ransacking villages and small towns. The fighting was only a brief two years, but it took a bloody toll. The eastern border remains largely war-torn and desolate, the battlefields haunted and forests burned, despite the years that have passed. Perhaps one day new life will thrive.
The Conflict
Conditions
As the war lasted two full years, the armies of both sides suffered the weather and temperature conditions of all four seasons, along with food shortages as the farmlands on the border became more and more desolate. Both Falondan and Corvinian supply routes remained strong, but the treasuries of both sides took a significant hit. Deployments were long, with some battalions being away from home for the entirely of the conflict. The Falondans were demoralized by the fighting, as the general air of confusion surrounding the attempted Corvinian invasion remained.
Outcome
In the wake of so many civilian casualties with little-to-no gain, the general populace of Falondis lost a considerable amount of faith in the rulers of their nation. They were particularly harsh on Prince Edmund -- criticisms which continued throughout his career. King Levondel was not immune to the whispers, but the birth of Princess Euna only a year after the end of the war warmed the public perception once more.
Aftermath
The devastated borderlands remain razed to this day, with arcane destruction scarring the land. There have been attempts to resettle the area, but little will grow.
