Personal history
Hox Vilescale spent his formative years with his expansive family serving the whims of a particularly arrogant and destructive green dragon named Glasifthunax. When a band of adventurers slew his evil master, Hox - who was quite wily and talented - begged to ride along. Though skeptical and suspicious of the young kobold, Hox proved his worth with both his magic and quick mind, swiftly earning his place with his newfound companions.
After several prosperous years of adventuring, Hox’s group disbanded and left for greener pastures. Hox found himself with pockets heavy with coin and fingers itching for more. His tenacity and attention to detail afforded him many opportunities among the mercantile populace, both legal and illicit. His powerful magic simply served as a sorcerous incentive for those who did not take him seriously due to his small stature.
Hox made a name for himself gradually over many years, traveling the Falondan trade routes, mediating guild disputes, and dealing in rare and priceless art and artifacts. He met Lysanthir Taur’amoren, an eladrin archaeologist of growing renown, at an auction, where they attempted to outbid one another for a crumbling parchment map, supposedly leading to a lost dwarven temple. Hox was eventually beaten in the financial battle, but determinedly followed Lysanthir to the map’s marked location, which proved to be false. Angry and annoyed, Hox and Lysanthir teamed up to determine the true location of the ruin. Their combined motivation — Lysanthir seeking knowledge, Hox seeking priceless artifacts — led them to a successful conclusion. They parted on fair terms and throughout the years, Lysanthir would send Hox interesting or valuable artifacts he might find on his excavations that he had no use for.
As the years passed and Hox’s renown as a wily and successful merchant grew, his name caught the ear of Prince Edmund de Falondis, cousin and advisor to the king. Edmund sought Hox out and offered him a position as a liaison between the crown and merchant guilds trading throughout the empire. Having lived considerably longer than many kobolds, Hox chose to take the position, citing a desire to "settle down" and count his coin. He enjoyed the position immensely and when a very young, bold Princess Euna came to him asking for his assistance in negotiating a trade route that he father, the king disapproved of, Hox did not hesitate. Together, he and the young princess established a new, highly profitable deal with the northern territories for timber in exchange for spices. Less than a year after this deal was put in place, King Levondel passed away and Princess Euna disappeared.
When Prince Edmund became regent, he appointed Hox as his Master of Coin, a choice that many did not agree with, due to remaining suspicions over Hox’s race. Hox paid little heed to the grumblings of disapproval and in the short time he was in his position before Princess Euna was recovered, put several trade deals in place that would help refill the throne’s coffers. When Princess Euna set Prince Edmund on his mission into the Feywild, she offered Hox to remain in his position as Master of Coin, citing the successful work they had done together previously. But Hox, after 80 years of survival by avoiding danger, followed his instincts and declined, choosing instead to join his former employer. Though the Feywild would be immeasurably dangerous, he trusted the known danger over the unknown dread he felt looking into the princess’ eyes.
