Chauntea

Goddess Chauntea

Chauntea is the deity dedicated to agriculture. Being the Goddess of agriculture, she is often represented by a bundle of grain.   The Grain Goddess Chauntea is goddess of agriculture: sowing and reaping, seeding and harvest, breeding and butchery, shearing and weaving. In this aspect she is a rural deity rarely prayed to behind the walls of a city except by kitchen gardeners. She is often represented as a more portly woman with a pitchfork in one hand and dropping seeds in the other.    Following Chauntea one tries to practice nurturing and growth. Agricultural sayings and farming parables are the primary sources of her teachings. Growing and reaping being the literal implementation of the eternal cycle is a common theme in this faith. Her followers try to avoid destruction for destruction's sake, or leveling without rebuilding.   Temples to Chauntea are laden with knowledge and lore about farming and cultivation. Her priestesses work closely with the communities in rural areas, and they are often seen rolling up their sleeves to get the seed in the ground, or yolking oxen to harvest.
