Legend's Castle

It was built about 54 years ago after the Crisis of 898 that nearly destroyed the part of the continent. It's the headquarters for the Academy and acts as their school to teach and train more academy members known as heroes or students.

ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR

The castle is made of the finest white polished limestone stone on the outside from the mountains of Fairley. Stained glass from the glass blowers in the Sor-Ta empire which line the main floor with the history of heroes. Rugs from the tailors in Carawand are provided in every hall with the finest stitching. The castle is the accumulation of cooperation from the Imperium's allies and vassals.   There are six main sections of the castle that takes up a vast portion of land in Aulus. The center structure is the main hall. It's a semi-circle building with is the main entrance to the castle. Three wings break off from the hall each with three floors. The next section is the underground complex beneath the castle and city. The final section is the central tower at the center of the castle.

The Main Keep

This is the section of the castle. It has three floors making up the largest portion of the castle.

1st Floor

The 1st floor is the main hall. Here the stain glass lines the curved walls which depict tragic events that were miraculously stopped. The hall is used for meetings and practice exercises. Most everything goes through this floor which makes it usually quite busy. A staircase that leads to all the floors is located here. This is the only way up and down the castle. These grand stair cases divide the stain glass murals and leads directly to the World Eye and the rest of the wings.

2nd Floor

The second floor is the command center where the professors determine where the heroes should be deployed. It is directly above the main hall but does not have direct access to the floor. The room consists of desks, bookshelves, and maps for them to use when needed. In the center is a map called the World Eye, a near accurate representation of the world with a slight curve to it. From it they can track the location of deployed heroes and other valuable information.

3rd Floor

The third floor is the smallest and is the main office for the Grand Overseer and his or her accommodations. The Grand Overseer lives here and works on this floor when he or she is not attending to other matters.

Wing of Mind

The Wing of Mind is the section dedicated to the magical and intellectual arts.

1st Floor

The first floor houses the library, Solar Church, Lunar Monastery, and some generic training rooms for magic. The library is the large room on this floor with it taking up the majority of it. While not as vast as our Archives, it has more instructional material compared to our more factual, informative, and hypothetical content. However, it does assist the Academy well since when it was founded. The church and monastery are side by side each other for religious practice and identifying affinity. The other rooms are used for general training for the six types of magic. They are usually stocked with various tomes and practice focuses.   The main corridors have large rectangular blue rugs in the center of every hallway. Orbs of light float near the ceilings and will float along with people as they walk the corridor. Rooms are on either side and the lights will also follow people in and out of rooms when there is little light. Each of the general study rooms have a large circular blue rug along with a few chairs and a table. Other assorted objects would be there as well depending on what is taught there.   The library is one of the brighter places in the castle. With multiple windows and lights, at any time of the day, someone can actively read the books, something the Archives have failed to accomplish. They took note from Sor-Ta interior design with some comfort-based floor seating. It’s a more communal design compared to our isolated wooden desks and chairs.

2nd Floor

The second floor is used for large scale combat, specifically for magic. Training equipment is in abundance and can be used within the room. The room is also enchanted to prevent lethal spells and attacks from striking. On the floor as well are more generic study rooms from more intellectual based studies such as language.   The training room was designed with magic in mind. Pyres of fire and pools of water are placed along the sides for the Elemental Dancers. The stone work of the floor is smooth and even with some square pillars around to encourage ingenuity with spell casting. There are even some training dummies that cast spells back to support defensive training. Along with the equipment, banners line the bare walls next to the windows. These banners are changed often due to how often they are caught in the misfire.

3rd Floor

The third floor holds the professor housing if they do live in the city and other life amenities. Any extra room are used for guests. The floor has a common space, but each room as its own living space. it's as if there are small houses on this floor. Each room has a bedroom, a small kitchen, with a small living space. Whatever is filled in them is up to the owners’ whim.   The common space is filled with couches and chairs with the occasional decorative bookshelf. There are windows, but they are usually covered by curtains. In the center is a ornate fireplace this almost always lit.

Wing of Brawn

The Wing of Brawn is dedicated to the art of war and battle.

1st Floor

The first floor is a large combat arena. Training dummies, training weapons, targets, etc are all. While mainly indoors, right outside there are items of interest such as an obstacle course and a stable. The two areas work together to assist in training for combat at all levels.

2nd Floor

The second floor was made for the tactical side of combat. Rooms with battlefield maps and tactical simulations to help instruct battlefield smarts. This is only about half of the floor. The other half is used for hybrid combat with magic. Magic and weapons combat is difficult and dangerous when untrained. As a result, several rooms were dedicated to the training.   The tactical room has many maps similar to the one found in the command room. The maps recreate a battle with different pieces placed on the map. It recreates realistic terrain along with the pieces to create an overhead battlefield. In some cases, large scale armies are used while in other cases small scale teams to help simulate a possible battle. People can be in here for hours on one simulation trying to figure it them out like a puzzle.   The hybrid combat room is a special place. It can hold up to about five people with the space to safely practice. Some more rare enchanted weapons are at the disposal for training here.

3rd Floor

The third floor is mostly storage of supplies and equipment. The floor isn't exclusively weapons and armor, but food, magical trinkets, etc.

Wing of Skill

The Wing of Skill was once used for the arts and crafts such as painting, music, blacksmiths, enchanting, and storytelling. However, the wing hasn't been used for this purpose for hundreds of years. Now it's used to house students and faculty for the academy along with any other classes that don't fit in the other two wings.

1st Floor

The first floor used to be craft rooms, but only the smithy remains. Now the rooms were renovated into housing for students. The dormitories take up most the space with a living space and a dining hall also on the same floor. A kitchen is also here but is somewhat small for the size of the academy.   All the bedrooms hold two people in a small room. Only two people of the same sex are allowed together and, in most cases, try to place similar races together. Each room contains 2 beds, 2 dressers, and 2 nightstands with candles. Otherwise they are mostly bare for the residents to decorate how they see fit.

2nd Floor

The second floor is mostly empty. This floor mostly has classrooms and craft centers, but also has the Academies hospital for more serious injuries. Most are unused expect the enchanting craft room which is the most underused room in the wing that can be entered. Now the floor collects cobwebs.   The hospital can hold up ten patients. The professor of solar magic usually works here if there is a patient. Otherwise it's locked up. It contains several beds and cabinet full of herbs and bandages.

3rd Floor

The third floor was recently about 30 years ago was finally finished after they change the original purpose of the room. It was supposed to be a gallery and market, but with the shutdown of the Wing of Skill that it was changed into a garden and sitting room for relaxation. Plants from all over the world reside here and the roof is all glass for the plant to survive. It also has a magical environment to keep the room as warm or as could as it needed to be.

Underground Complex

The basement section in the castle is referred to as the Underground Complex. Directly underneath the castle was once an old set of ruins lost to time. Now it's maze of passages that lead all over the city. Only a few rooms are used for imprisonment and interrogation. Otherwise, the area is forbidden to everyone due to the structural integrity and danger there. The passages themselves are very narrow with the only being a few feet wide and about 6 feet tall.

Aulus Tower

Above the main hall is the Aulus tower. This was the last addition to the castle before construction ended. The tower was made as a memorial to the lives lost and the battles won during the Crisis of 898. Statutes of the three great heroes who lead the Imperium and it's people to victory are here. Next to them are a list of all the known names of people lost on the fateful week.

History

Four years after the Crisis of 898 is was certain another such catastrophe would come again. The Crisis was only stopped by three unknown heroes and if those three did not, the consequences would have been dire. Emperor Julian II realized that the Imperium has no way of protecting its people from an event of this scale. As a result, he pooled together resources from all over the Imperium. From the Sor-Ta Empire to the Imperium homelands, he gathered the finest architects, builders, soldiers, teachers, and great minds to build a castle fit for the greatest of people. Construction took four years in total, however there was no one to fill it.   Upon the founding of the Academy, the castle was renovated to accommodate the influx of students as well as prioritizing certain professions over others. The tower was built then along with the competition of the three floors of the Wing of Skill 30 years later. Now other 50 years old, the castle is still in great condition even with the amount of people working inside it.
"It's a wondrous place creating people to protect the world from calamities. At least that's what they claim. The general populace has been frustrated with their activities for the past decade."
