Entrapment

Pre-Oculus Literature, Vol. 1
The Gods created their children, thriving and beautiful, adored and harmonious. Years became moments and moments then forgotten.   The World Resets. Some pleasant and others horrendous.
The Gods grew tired.
The Gods became sad.
The Gods were angry.
The Gods rebelled.
They created the magnificent. Beings that could control the World itself and so the Guardians stood tall, while the other children thrived.   The Ancient Dragons helped formed the mountains with their steps and when they wept, the seas grew large. Their roars shook the sky and could carry the night into day. Their wisdom so deep and their sight so vast that this World would never again fear itself.
The Children were happy.
The Children became greedy.
The Children grew bored.
The World found a new way to Reset.   So scared of the Ancient Dragons, these Guardians were too strong. The World instead whispered. It whispered in the ears of the beloved. And so, the Beloved Children fought. So fraught with sorrow were the Gods, but they could not deny their children. The Children fought, and the Gods blessed.
The Guardians watched.
The Guardians slept.
The Guardians protected the World, not the Children.
A man smiled so bright that the Sun hid. He was a Child that fought.
For those who do not wish to fight, said the man.
He desires change. If the World must change, then so be it, they survived before and they shall again. The Ancient Dragon pondered and the man spoke.
The Man loved this world.
The Man loved the Gods.
The Man loved the other Children.
The Man came to love the Ancient Dragon.
And the Guardian loved the Man.
So they fought. The Man to protect the people, the Guardian to protect the World. And as such, the other Guardians fought as well.   The World Resets. Some pleasant and others horrendous.   The Guardian fell, and the Man wept. The Man fought, and the Ancient Dragon slept. Slept upon the ground where its body disappeared and in it’s place a barrier was made. A barrier that stops time, where the last Ancient Dragon waits for the small man. Guarding the space, a home that they had once promised.   — Translated by Avi, the Fifth Linguist of Lakeview Heightst

Summary

A small story about the fundamental nature of Implacabilis' natural Resets.

Historical Basis

Due to the nature of Implacabilis more violent Resets not much can be proven in terms of validity for this short story. Much has been proven in the way of previous wars and lost races, the Ancient Dragon being one of them. It's the ancestor of many Dragon Kin of today.   Literature had always been predominantly passed down through oral tradition, normally being tied to certain noticeable landmarks or cultural traditions set firm within any particular region. Those centered around Ancient Dragons almost always leave behind abnormal phenomenon or grand eclipses of power.   The ending of the story lead to many speculation to the use of magical and soul bound barriers. And the extent of their uses.

Spread

This has become quite the famous bit of literature in adolescents as a tragic love story and quite famously used in children's bedtime stories to help slowly acclimated them to the natural phenomena of their World.

Variations & Mutation

This is most certainly not the only rendition of the story, the basic concepts of the war between the World's residents and the relationship between them and the Ancient Dragon maintain to a fair extent, but depending on what purpose the story is serving the relationship between the Ancient Dragon and the Solider (the most popular renditions he is seen as a Knight, King, Mage or even Seer) is embellished, giving their ending larger touch of tragedy.
