Mirror Shards

These fragments reveal some strange properties when exposed to some other factors. I collected several shards that supposedly belonged to the same ancient mirror. Each was like a piece of a painting - in this case - of a grassy plain. When I brought them close together I could swear I heard a gust of wind and see the grass in the shards sway.   In addition, most companions seem to be wary of them and stay away if they can. Perhaps they have some knowledge of or relation to the mirrors of which we are unaware.

Fragments of the Past

When the Rite of Mon-Aere was completed, the monster it was meant to banish was banished but also every mirror shattered. The resulting shards were no longer mirrors - they no longer reflected what was in front of them. Instead each fragment seems to show a still image.   It is said that the Collectors gathered many of these shards in the years following the rite. While the organization eventually fell to the forces of the first king, the hoard was never discovered and some scholars and treasure hunters believe it may still be out there.

Common Beliefs

Scholars spend a lot of time collecting and observing things but for the average person these shards are a mystery. They are not impossible to find so some stories have developed about them over time. Some believe that the mirrors are like windows to the past or the future, others think they are connected to the moon.

Rumors

There are rumors of people who possess strange abilities which have been granted to them by the shards. Hearsay includes someone who can leap over buildings, people who breathe fire, and even the ability to control the bodies of the dead.
