Long before humans ever developed space travel, they were divided between hundreds of nation-states across Earth. Many grew into political powerhouses, while others were trampled on and oppressed. Many were democratic republics, while others were militaristic dictatorships. Some were corrupt and full of themselves; others wanted to extend a hand of friendship. Regardless of what form they took, the governments of the old Earth were destined to become irrelevant in a hundred years. With the formation of the United Terran Republic(UTR), all former nations of Earth were replaced.
The United States of America(USA, US) was a representative democratic republic located in the continent of North America. Existing from 1776 to 2092 CE, the nation grew into the most powerful nation in human history during the Lost and Dawn Eras. Its constitutional republic and its industrial might allowed for the most thriving civilian populous at the time and allowed it to out-compete its political opponents in the long run. However, by 1960 CE, the nation was beginning to slowly crack from the inside due to a political cold war with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics(USSR), civil rights movements, and a turn toward uncontrolled capitalism.
By June 6th, 2030 CE, a solar storm from Earth's host star, Sol, caused a massive month-long blackout across the entire planet.

Located majorly in Northern and Central Africa, it was comprised of Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Western Sahara, half of Niger, Chad, Car, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, half of Tanzania, half of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, half of the Republic of the Congo, South Africa, and Madagascar.
