Isolone Swamp
The Isolone Swamp is a wooded wetland of freshwater inland, closer to the Blukress River and saltwater closer to the Moonrise Gulf. It cuts across a large swath of Vyon's center and ends in Moonrise Gulf to the east and The Soundless Bog.
Geography
The Isolone Swamp is large enough that it has many distinct areas and ecosystems. Closer to the Soundless Bog, the woods taper out to sawgrass and shrubs, but further east, there are large trees and mini-forests of cypress and/or pine, and the regions where the salt and freshwaters meet to the east of the Spine are full of mangrove trees.
Fauna & Flora
While the Isolone is not as chaotic as the Northern Wood, it is largely unfriendly to and uninhabited by Vyonese civilization and is thus an environment ripe for creatures such as trolls, lizardfolk, hags, plant creatures, and more typical swamp animals.
The swamp is considered to be dangerous to most travelers and they will attempt to make the trip through over two days, making a stop for the night in Isolone Village so they won't be caught in the swamp at night. While travelers might camp along the edges of the Spine elsewhere, people are hesitant to leave the road itself while traveling through the Isolone.
While most people avoid the swamp, there are some who live within it, such as Markard Baldhelmson, a gnome with a metal cart pulled by two giant lizards. He hunts and turns his finds into snacks to sell along The Spine of the World to travelers.
