Ketaya

Overview

Ketaya is the secret language of the Guild of Thieves at Winterborn. It started back in 1931 when Guildmaster Fredrique Totterdale when he needed to speak to several of his subordinates while spending a few years imprisoned at the Duke of Winterborn's mercy. The first letter which included the cypher and key was smuggled out by a guard that worked for Totterdale.   The first cypher was dots and lines added to the letters Totterdale sent out and received. Each series of dots and/or lines corresponded to a letter of the alphabet. The dots and lines were added as a border to each letter and even between the lines of the letter if needed. The hidden message went clockwise around the page in a circle until the message was concluded. Sometimes the border was a work of art and the message hidden inside. The receiver would have to scrutinize the border to see exactly what was being said. This led to mixed messages and even some orders from Totterdale being completely misconstrued.   Eventually, Totterdale was no longer imprisoned, but he enjoyed employing the secret language so much that he made it a requirement to learn to become a part of the Guild of Thieves at Winterborn.
